I think it does. Plural of their, as in "they own it, it's theirs".

Damn straight!! We're all entitled to our own opinions. I simply consider mine to be of equal more value than that of anyone who doesnt like fast soloing :D And in response to whoever said shred wasnt musical (or something along those lines), watch and listen:

Find "Another Girl Another Planet" by The Only Ones for a fantastic solo (and intro). Not particularly fast nor even particularly inventive but it just *sounds* so good which is what defines musical ability in my book. The intro is just rising notes in equal intervals but is quality & anthemic in equal proportions.

It's a matter of opinion. What you consider to be "pointless noodling" sounds great to me. I'd rather listen to someone shred than some boring mong from Manchester make some dreary nonsense using a few horribly simplistic power chords.
Anyway, we don't all need to have a load of emotion and all that garbage behind our music. Personally, when I hear some cynical teen bawl his eyes out over some tart that dumped him for wearing too much make-up, I just want to be sick. Or when I hear the latest Indie/Alternative rock or whatever you would class shat like Coldplay as, I find it difficult to stay awake.

Yeah, I thought that but I wasn't sure. Hammet isn't bad as such, it's just that in a lot of songs he seems to be throwing solos in there because there 'should' be a solo. Plus most of them are remarkably similar.
For people who shred and sound good my vote goes to Paul Gilbert. My favourite guitarist is Joe Satriani but he isn't actually that fast so I'll leave him out of this. I don't actually have anything against shredding, it just grates when it's pointless and musically awful like in the video metalhead posted.
