But Sven will change the formation before the Ireland game because he want's to "experiment".
Like he's not been doing that since he took over.
There's no way England can even think about next year while playing like they have in their past two games.
I worry about your continuous optimism - what are you taking?

We deserved to beat them. Our end products were edgy but it was always England's game.
Against a stronger team we'd be looking at defeat... but then again the formation and the mind set of the team will be different.
It was boring. But I would hardly say depressing.
But the point is, if we do play Rooney on the left, we'd have no less width than Joe Cole is giving us at the moment, and probably a more intimidating presence on that side.
What Rooney also does superbly for Man Utd, is get the ball on the edge of the box, and then hold it in his feet - a position where he has many choices, one being to wait for the full-back on the left and then lay it across into their path. We saw that happen with O'Shea against Everton and it resulted in a goal.

As far as I understood it, Rooney wasn't designated a wing. He's allowed to drop back far behind van Nistelrooy, in the middle of the pitch, and pick up the ball from the defence and midfield, and given freedom to roam the wings so he can cross into RvN. I'm not sure I've ever seen him on the left wing, but I'm sure he could do it.

Five to ten minutes, tops, of pressure from them, which we duly dealt with in the period when, bizarrely, we had no wingers and four central midfielders on the pitch. Whatever it was Sven was trying obviously wasn't giving us much joy in midfield, where we'd controlled the play for the entire game, so Richardson came on and we picked it up a bit.

Well, that's what I mean.
SWP as an outside forward on the right, Rooney on the left - exactly where they play for their clubs.
Carrick will obviously be behind Beckham and Gerrard too, in that holding position, giving them license to come forward.

Wales had one decent attempt on goal whereas we had plenty. Wales didn't look like playing their own football whereas we dominated. We had a lot against us but managed a convincing win.
Don't patronise me with this "down to earth" rubbish. Anyone saying we struggled in that game needs to watch it again.
