They haven't deleted my login yet!

Oh well, while I'm here...

First off - hello all. Hope you're all having spiffingly wonderful lives. Well, most of you... ;-p

Now that's out of the way...

I have my PSP on pre-order with a certain other online retailer, and I need to get some games for it too. So any of you importers got any recommendations? I'll be buying official UK versions first off, but importers may be in a position to advise, having played the games. Yes, I have read reviews, but personal opinions can give a better balance.

What I'm thinking of so far are Ridge Racer, Mercury, Virtua Tennis, Metal Gear Acid, Ape Academy and Coded Arms. I know some of these are out in other regions, others may not be. Anyone have them and care to share their opinion?

Obviously there are a few must-have games which will be out shortly after launch (I'm thinking GT4 Mobile, Daxter and Pursuit Force specifically), but what of the current games? Is Mercury as much fun as it looks? Does Metal Gear really work as a 'card game'? How does Coded Arms play with only one analogue stick? Is Ape Academy fun? Should I choose a racer other than Ridge?

Also, as PSP is region-free for gaming, what websites would you recommend for cheap import games? Now I know some people at SR get particularly arsey about naming competitors here, even when they sell a multitude of things that SR don't... so feel free to e-mail me (about this only) - address on my profile page. And thanks in advance.

With the photo thing... if you have the new 2.0 Firmware you can set a photo as wallpaper, customising your PSP.

Trying to learn everything before I get my hands on one...

I did see Buffy season 7... I'll have to look on IMDB to see if I can place him. Sounds interesting, anyway!

I'm about to order another unfinished series - Babylon 5 Crusade. That will complete my DVD collection of B5.

Anyway, on the subject of PSP games... I think I'm going to order Ridge Racer, TOCA, Virtua Tennis, Mercury and - yes - Lumines.

Unless I change my mind, of course... but those are the favourites at the moment.

Its amazing what a difference it makes. I guess, as I said before, its all down to symmetry. We are very good at detecting when something isn't quite symmetric, so if we do it on purpose with the thirds rule, we're happy with the photo.

Glad you liked the lightning one though. Its not as rare an event as the double rainbow, but it was fun trying to get the photo.

Going back to the Firefly conversation, did you see season 7 of Buffy? The main character in Firefly, Malcolm Reynolds, also played one of the main bad guys in Buffy. He wasn't as good in that, but still fun to watch. I just thought it'd give you an idea of what its like. The Captain is a little like Crichton in his sincerity, but rather than crazy/wacky he's just an adventurous cowboy who definitely wants to be lost in space.

Couple of other things to mention, Wash (the pilot) played Steve the Pirate in Dodgeball and also Sunny in I, Robot. Gina Torres, who plays Zoe in Firefly, also played one of the bad guys in Angel (season 4 I think) as well as a small part in the Matrix Reloaded/Revolutions. That's just to give you a flavour of some of their other acting. If you like the movie later this year, it might be worth hunting down the first series (should be less than £17 if you get it at the right time and from the right place).

The lightning pic is pretty cool!

I did post the Florida pics some time ago, yes - shortly after the holiday.

That 'thirds' rule - believe it or not, I'd never heard of it until recently - it's in the GT4 guide, in the section on Photo Mode. I was reading about it, and it suddenly dawned on me that was pretty much what I'd always done anyway!

I won't upload the other pics, then - I've got some other stuff to be getting on with. If they ever go up in the future, I'll let you know. :-)

Anyway, I'm off out for a while, so I'll catch you later!

I think I remember seeing the Florida ones before - did you post them nearer the time? I may be remembering that wrong though! Either way, very cool photos. My Dad told me about a rule you seem to use regarding 1/3s 2/3s rather than 1/2, 1/2. The human mind looks too closely when it comes to symmetry, so photographs tend to work best when you put thing into sections divided into three vertically and horizontally. If you take a photo of the sea and sky, with the horizon at 1/3 or 2/3 height, it often looks far better than at the 1/2 way point. Definitely noticeable if you compare photos and its something you seem to have used well.

I did like the double rainbow though, don't think I've ever seen anything like that before. In a rather amateur attempt, I did something similar during a storm. Taking 20 photos at a time and deleting the ones that didn't work, I eventually (150 photos later) managed to take a photo of lightning: http://www.maths.bath.ac.uk/~ma0pnt/ducklings/lightning.jpg .

Not the greatest pic ever, but I tried! There is probably a much cleverer way of doing it with longer exposure or something, but I haven't figured that out yet.

Don't worry too much about uploading the other pics though, unless its something you were intending to do anyway. The Florida stuff was very interesting, but the racing would probably be less my kind of thing. Still, if you do decide to go ahead and upload them, feel free to let us all know.

At the moment, most of my photography consists of taking photos of things I'm selling on eBay, but I do enjoy it.

There's also an album on Photobox of the best photos I took on my holiday to Florida a few years ago - http://www.photoboxgallery.com/paranoimia

And one I was very lucky to get - a double rainbow! http://www.photobox.co.uk/album/9376

I also have several from RAF Duxford, and tons from the ASCAR/SCSA ( http://www.daysofthunder.co.uk ) racing at Rockingham - including some hot cars and even hotter pit lane babes! :-) Let me know if you're interested and I'll see about getting some uploaded.
