Oh well, while I'm here...

First off - hello all. Hope you're all having spiffingly wonderful lives. Well, most of you... ;-p

Now that's out of the way...

I have my PSP on pre-order with a certain other online retailer, and I need to get some games for it too. So any of you importers got any recommendations? I'll be buying official UK versions first off, but importers may be in a position to advise, having played the games. Yes, I have read reviews, but personal opinions can give a better balance.

What I'm thinking of so far are Ridge Racer, Mercury, Virtua Tennis, Metal Gear Acid, Ape Academy and Coded Arms. I know some of these are out in other regions, others may not be. Anyone have them and care to share their opinion?

Obviously there are a few must-have games which will be out shortly after launch (I'm thinking GT4 Mobile, Daxter and Pursuit Force specifically), but what of the current games? Is Mercury as much fun as it looks? Does Metal Gear really work as a 'card game'? How does Coded Arms play with only one analogue stick? Is Ape Academy fun? Should I choose a racer other than Ridge?

Also, as PSP is region-free for gaming, what websites would you recommend for cheap import games? Now I know some people at SR get particularly arsey about naming competitors here, even when they sell a multitude of things that SR don't... so feel free to e-mail me (about this only) - address on my profile page. And thanks in advance.

How can you actually have the patience to get that far in GT4? I'm up to about 50% now but I can't envision myself ever getting to 100%.

Why? The rally driving is hopeless. In GT3 it was finely tuned and it was a challenge but you always knew what the car would do at a corner so you could prepare. GT4 however is a different matter. The car never seems to be able to make its mind up about whether it's going to oversteer and slide nicely around the bend or understeer and smash into a wall. The latter shouldn't even be an issue when racing on dirt or ice.

It's a shame really because racing on tarmac on GT4 is a fantastic experience and I've become rather talented at it. Just wished they'd put as much thought and care into the rally portion of the game.

It definitely is! Are you looking ahead to Ratchet: Deadlocked? From what I can tell, its less about the adventure and more about the combat, but rather interestingly, I've heard that there will be a co-op mode, which would be excellent. I just hope it doesn't lose the innocence of the first three in a "Prince of Persia: The Warrior Within" kind of way.

Just finished it last night, enjoyed it from start to finish and would recommend it to anyone who isn't going to be sick everytime they see a little blood (since there is quite a bit). Plenty of decent puzzles, great combat and some of the best music I've heard in a game.

> but I'm currently lost in GT4,

I could really do with getting back in to that as I'd still got about 25% of the game remaining. I remember from our GT3 days that you used to be quite a master at these games (getting golds on many, many licence tests for example), so I imagine you're getting through it nicely! Any favourite races or cars so far?

If you can pick it up cheap, despite being cancelled its well worth a look. From what I could gather, it was cancelled because the network messed around with the running order and show times leading to people getting confused and not caring. The ratings were soon battered down so low that the network cancelled after just 15 episodes. They were, however, 15 fantastic episodes, especially Out of Gas, War Stories and a few others which stand out as pure brilliance. I'm just hoping Serenity maintains the same high standards rather than just relying on special effects.

At an unstudied glance, yes it's very similar to Tetris, but the rewards come from the music.

It's from the guy who did Rez, and the music is influenced by how flowing and conituous your combos etc are. The morefluent your playing, the more fluent the music. The more erratic your playing, the more erratic the music becomes.

I guess it's quite like Tetris taken to a new level, but the strategyu element added by the sweeping tempo bar and the level of thought needed to branch combos of squares to reach an ever higher score make this game ultimately addictive.

I started a high score page for this game on my website, linked to in this forum somewhere. I've not uploaded my latest score, but my total of 240000+ took me around 50 mins to reach.

Plus the 2 player mode, and the puzzle mode set it apart from other games too :D.

I like the way something I read put it, you either get this game, get hooked and love it, or you don't, it's that simple :).

Even their downloads are slow - 75kb to 80kb per second, when I should be getting 250kb/sec or more.

And you can't ask on their forums because you have to be a paid member to use them!

Speaking of Gamespot - am I the only person who sees nothing at all when I try to watch their video clips?

It's the only site I have any problem with - video from everywhere else is fine, but on Gamespot I get the sound and nothing else.

pb - Hi!

There's no way I'll be getting Tony Hawks as I can't stand skateboarding games! I'd been thinking of getting Everybody's Golf rather than Tiger Woods; the snooker game also looks promising... but I'm not completely sure about either game one way or the other yet.

Hi Wookie, nice to see you posting.

I'm thinking of getting Tony Hawk's as well as Ridge Racer.

Possibly getting Tiger Woods, as I love the series so much on the home consoles, but it's not out for a while.

I've been searching gamespot for the new games coming out and it really gives a good idea of what to expect.
