It's another summer blockbuster that brain damaged boys will whoop to and then forget they saw it 10mins later.
Why do these films get made?
I watched the trailer and found myself looking out the window in sheer non-interest as it played.

WATCH! the explosions and FEEL! the rumblerama explosion digital stereo whilst you LOVE! the bikini-clad woman as she FLIES! at great speed whilst MISSILES! narrowly miss her as HUGE EXPLOSIONS! plume into the sky to cover STEALTH PLANES! attacking with MORE EXPLOSIONS! etc etc

I wonder if it will end in a tense attack on some military installation, and they've had to STEAL! the STEALTH! plane because they've been suspended due to their RENEGADE! ways and NONCONFORMIST! attitudes as their commander gruffly tells them they're grounded yet secretely is happy when they ATTACK! in the finale, and having landed SAFELY! the woman and white guy (we can't have inter-race relationships in our summer films, we can watch brown people getting EXPLODED! but they can't kiss white women) run to each other and EMBRACE!

Ass movie.

I saw the trailer for this when I went to see Batman, I just shuddered my way through it.

Nevermind that Fast and the Furious and XXX were terrible (they proudly proclaim it's from the same director like it's a good thing) but this film rips off The Terminator, Top Gun, Short Circuit and about five other films in the trailer alone. Urgh...

It's got a stealth plane in it, that's all you need to know about the plot. Unless it manages to re-fuel, re-arm, and carpet bomb the entire planet to death, or fly off into space for a bit, I think we can see how it's going to end.

It's called Stealth, yet in the 20 second teaser trailer I saw on TV, pretty much everything they showed was explosions.

Interesting kind of stealth....

I know someone who generally hates most of the movies I like. These are usually films that make you think, or gripping dramas and stuff that is generally....good. He hated Pulp Fiction and Reservoir Dogs because he couldn't follow them.

He prefers these sorts of "no-brainers", mainly because they have no real plot or cryptic moments, they give a lot af eye candy and 'look cool'.

I guess the linear plot allows easy viewing.

It's "Top Gun" crossed with "Firefox" for the MTV generation, with sub videogame fx. Looks utterly ass. I'll be watching it, and probably shouting at the tv throughout.

ahahahahha. "He's got two throat rippers, blah blah, two blue ferrets". "He could detroy an entire city with his load"

Come in Mr Freud.

Ahahahaha x 2. Circle strafing jets. this looks so uttery crap. Can't wait to see it.

Happens all the time though, doesn't it. Finding Nemop and Shark Tale. Volcano and Dantes Peak. One studio hears what another is doing, and decides that's going to be the theme of the summer, and they get on with it.

I can't put my finger on it. Sometimes it's just the massive scale of it all, and the suspension of disbelief.
Some movies can be entertaining without having to make you think.

That said, I don't have loads of 'action' movies in my collection - the Charlies Angels movies, The Mummy - and super hero movies - Spider-man X-men, Hulk - not sure if they count.

The thing is, I don't really tend to go for this sort, the straight-up, "we have a serious situation here" explosive action movies - but I have a thing for those that have plenty of humour, are self-aware, and and just sit back and say 'watch me, I'm shallow, but fun'.

The other day I went to the cinema and saw Fantastic Four and Batman Begins back to back. Both are super-hero origin stories, but by Christ do they ever go about it differently - that said, I enjoyed both thoroughly. Batman is deep and dark, and every element of his being is revealed, we know why the human Bruce Wayne became Batman. The Fantastic Four went up into space, got hit by cosmic radiation, then went all screwy. Simple. There could have been more to it, but there wasn't, and I was fine with that.

That said, last night I watched the remake of Dawn of the Dead. They've taken the original script, taken out everything that was clever about it. I mena, the original had four characters, and they held the film together. This had at least a dozen. Whilst they tried to create relationships between these characters there was no real tension - and no zombies getting stuck on escalators either.

Don't think I've really done a greta job of explaining myself, but I think I'm somewhere in the middle-ground anyway -lots of action movies have no appeal, and I don't see the point in them, but others, like Charlies Angels, for instance, I cannot understand why people don't enjoy.

I saw a trailer for a film called The Cave on Friday, and then one for The Descent. How do they justify bringing out two almost identical movies in the same time period?

Anyway, Stealth looks balls.
