I've got the demo but it simply doesn't start. I've since installed the supplied drivers (77.30) but that didn't fix the problem either. The desktop resolution is 1024x768 at 32bit colours by the way. Direct X 9c is installed, graphics card a 6600GT, onboard sound with the A8N-SLI board and an Athlon 64 3800+ processor.

Sounds like a problem with your GFX card for definite. Perhaps it doesn't support a certain feature (dynamic shadows or something). I'm pretty sure you can turn off shadows before you load the game, though, so do that and you shouldn't have the problem. Either that or you need new drivers.

Damarus, you've fixed it for me. Thanks so much. Bit annoying releasing an unfinished demo isn't it? It was the 800x600@60hz error message by the way.

Game Starts at a black screen then dumps to desktop

Change your shortcut, so the target reads:
"C:\Program Files\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2 Demo\BF2.exe" +menu 1 +fullscreen 0
(This will disable fullscreen, you can undo this later)
(This will allow us to find your error msg)

If the error message is:

A: unknown dynamicoption value 800 600@60
Your monitor can not support the LOW resolution BF2 is tring to start at, this is easily fixed.

Goto my documents, then 'Battlefield 2 Demo\Profiles\Default\' and open video.con with notepad.

Replace the line:
VideoSettings.setResolution 800x600@60Hz
With:
VideoSettings.setResolution 1024x768@75Hz
Now, start the game. (you can change 'fullscreen to 1 to get back to fullscreen mode)

B: Failed to create d3d device.

Your video card does not meet the minimum requirements, and/or does not support DX 9.0c, go buy a new one.

How annoying is it after waiting so long. It goes to a black screen, waits for about 5 secs then just cuts back to the desktop right ???
