"Harrison then confirmed that past-gen, Nintendo-created titles will indeed be downloadable for free."

Well, this is a minor bonus. The thing is, though, it's only talking about Nintendo-created titles. Which could potentially narrow the list of titles available down to about 20. Meh.

Also, the fact that this is probably the best Revolution news so far is also a little concerning...

If everybody downloaded roms, then nobody would buy the games, so the developers would make no money whatsoever, so why would they continue to make games?

If piracy was stopped completely, developers could afford to reduce prices by a good portion.

You could end up paying the same amount for a new game as you do for a new DVD, and it would be legal.

The devellopers rely on sales of new games, so even when I downloaded Pokémon Red and Blue (before their release), I used it more as a demo before getting the real thing (I think that was mainly so I could trade/battle).

As for games that aren't even in the shops anymore, like Snes Roms (and N64 ones too now), I have NO guilt over pirating. Some have seen GBA re-release which might be a kind of point against it, but then the re-releases have been updated in ways that aren't on the Snes ROM.

Sure, you can buy these games second hand, but as far as the games industry is concerned, that's almost as bad! As far as they're concerned, it's not about how much you pay, it's that THEY get the money for it rather than some kid who wants to sell on their old games.

So if shops don't sell a game then I've no moral qualms about pirating it.

Patents last forever, but they don't stop other people from being allowed to make them

For example, John Logie Baird patented the television, but he's not the only person allowed to make them.

Meh, yeah, there are exceptions. I actually want to get a copy of the Sonic Mega Collection at some point cause it looks pretty ace and I do like a bit of Sonic 3 and Knuckles action. I also got that Legend of Zelda compilation thing cause I'd never played Zelda 1 or 2 on the NES and wanted to.

But yeah, there are exceptions, and I could well go fork out for a GBA and a bunch of old games... But let me ask you, do you really think Nintendo are morally right (no legality, because that's not your opinion, it's something that your being told is 'bad') to sell age old games for full price (ie. they re-released the DK series and some of the NES Mario games on GBC, now they're re-releasing them AGAIN for GBA... Still for £30 odd quid...)

Is that really fair to the consumer given they have none of the development costs, simply the cost of manufacturing (which I'd guess is a pittance compared to the £30 people are being asked to pay...)

I'm not arguing ROMs are morally good or 'fighting back' against bad companies making money off games, I'm saying just as you can class ROM downloaders as 'bad' for ripping off developers/publishers, you can class those developers/publishers as 'bad' for ripping off their customers...
