"Harrison then confirmed that past-gen, Nintendo-created titles will indeed be downloadable for free."

Well, this is a minor bonus. The thing is, though, it's only talking about Nintendo-created titles. Which could potentially narrow the list of titles available down to about 20. Meh.

Also, the fact that this is probably the best Revolution news so far is also a little concerning...

You're forced to pay the £30 if you want to play the 10 year old games without downloading them or dabbling in 2nd hand retail.

A rip off is "An act of exploitation", and I think it's clear that all the rehashes of old games are just Nintendo exploiting the customer's desire to play these old games by charging through the nose for them. Obviously you don't need to buy the games, but you don't need to use Windows, either, using your example.

If Nintendo released all the original N64 games for £40 a time, wouldn't you feel cheated, that you had to pay such high fees to play these games that you've already paid for once? You're forced to pay the money if you want to buy the game, and Nintendo are charging what would seem to be rip-off or extortionate prices, in many people's eyes.

People aren't being ripped off in this case. The prices aren't forced on them.

What I would consider being ripped off is that you strike a deal with someone over something and find there are dozens of hidden charges the salesman fails to tell you about until after you sign the dotted line.

Or purely as an example:

Microsoft decide to include a forced update which makes it so that you have to pay to use their operating systems on a regular basis, as opposed to buying it either with a computer, or choosing to buy an upgrade (such as Windows Xp over Windows 2000 for example).

Turok was released on the Nintendo 64 for £70...

I didn't feel ripped off when I chose not to get it and bought it for £20 new a few months later.

erm...if you want the game you have to pay 'extortionate' prices. That is being ripped off.

Look hard enough and you can get those games very cheap pre-owned.

The Donkey Kong Country series were SNES games and the Super Mario Advance series were all updated ports of the SNES versions...sure, they were NES games but technically ported from the original SNES ports :P

And they're not ripping anyone off. You don't have to buy them :P

You mean you agree with me. Or you think that I am a moronic God.

I never mentioned the NES classics...

I mentioned some SNES / NES games (Mario and Donkey Kong series) that were re-released once on Game Boy Colour (I think for about £25 a pop?), and that have now been re-released AGAIN for the GBA, again I think for about £25-30 per game... Surely that is ripping off the consumer to some extent? In that there were obviously very little development costs for these re-releases.

Add to that the fact that they also re-released all the NES Mario games on the SNES (Mario All-Stars), and surely they've made plenty of money from these titles already, and shouldn't be charging so much when they are nearly (or over in some cases...?) a decade old.

And stealing isn't necessarily morally wrong, but hey, that's an entirely new ball game.

I can't see any harm in downloading games if there is definately no way of getting hold of them legitimately. I don't do it myself, but I see the point there.

I disagree with you when you talk about the NES Classics selling for £30. They were released with an R.R.P. of £14.99. And it is morally wrong to steal.

And on the subject of Alfonse. I agree with you totally.
