Go and grab yourself a guitar of any description and play the intro to All My Life by the FooFighters. Basically its just a G power chord but if you're rubbish at playing the guitar just play a G note. Listen to the song for the rhythm if you dont know it.

Now for the hard part.

Try singing along to it. Doesnt sound hard but it is. Singing and playing it at the same time is nearly impossible. It makes Dave Grohl even more of a ledgend IMO.

Name a few songs that you think the solos are "almost exactly the same" in then. I'll have a decent listen to them and decide for myself.

seriously, Kirk Hammet's solos are all almost *exactly* the same.
That is not true of 'every other band'.

Haha, I tried that the other day and kept ballsing up with the rythm.

But that's because I suck at guitar, not because it's hard.

Me and buddy chumster Craig will be hitting the rehearsal studio (his parent's house) soon, with a collection of tunes I've spent about 5 years whittling down into something half-decent (my opinion). No lyrics yet, I can't song for toffee. Although nor can Steve Malkmus, and he's a hero of mine.

I spent months trying to learn to do it but failed and decided to spend my time learning to shred instead, since it was only a novelty thing really given my woeful voice. I'm not quite Yngwie yet though, working on the massive body and hair at the minute. leather clothes are on order.

There's some famous guy who can't sing and play at the same time, forget who he is at the minute though. I think it's a blues or jazz guitarist...

edit: yeah, BB King can't play and sing simultanesouly and that's after 50+ years...
