*Post contains no spoilers* (even though we all knew what was going to happen anyway)

Went to an early morning showing which started at 1am this morning (which made me feel exceptionally geeky not to mention tired this morning) and speaking in the style of master Yoda, "like it you will".

George Lucas has nearly, very nearly, redeemed himself for the monumental balls-up that is EP1. The battle scenes (of which there are probably too many if you want to be overly critical, but I guess it is set during a war) are just stunning, the lightsaber fights are fantastic, and the Star Wars atmosphere is overall a bit more like the original series of films. The way the film ties all the ends together to set it up for A New Hope is also done brilliantly, and it left me with quite a satsified feeling to finally see the kind of closure we all knew was coming.

I'll leave the long-winded reviews which break down every aspect of the film in microscopic detail to others, and simply say it was a darn enjoyable film, not quite sure if you'd ever say it was better than EPs 4, 5 or 6, but it certainly dumps over EPs 1 & 2 from a very great height.

Did anyone else have Star Wars characters walking around their cinema? There was this group (Skywalker Disco or something) posing for photos and annoying people as we waited to go in. They had it all from Darth Vader to a Sand Person who walked around shouting, waving his stick, and pushing people.

Why hasn't anyone made a proper lightsabre yet?
I mean ... in this day and age, come on, get to it.

Doesn't have to melt stuff, obviously. But how hard is it to get a glowy tube to shoot out of a handley bit?

Yeah I enjoyed it too (Episode 3 that is) can't be bothered to say much as I'm tired out, but it was good. Maybe I'll wake up in the morning with a CGI hangover and realise how lame it really was, just like with the last two.

Heh, yeah true.

To be honest I think people are harsh on it, but it had a difficult job to do. It had to introduce all the main characters (Obi Wan, Anakin, Amidala, Palpatine etc.), emphasise their importance and basically set up the story for the next 2 (or 5 I s'pose you could say) movies. I think it did that pretty well, and also came up with its own story with its own unique characters (such as Qui-Gon and Darth Maul.)

Personally, I feel Episode 2 was the balls-up. Hated it.

It comes down to opinion I guess...though I'm sure you all agree that 102 Dalmations was a steaming pile of dog excrement.

Typically film critics are wrong.

They say that good films are bad and bad films are good all the time.

Though more often than not they say that bad films are good (Donnie Darko? WTF?)

I never go by someone elses opinion as it's bound to differ about things from mine, i'll take a friends advice about seeing a film if they say it's really good but it would have to be from someone thats in to the same sorts of films as me.

People that make judgements without seeing or trying things just annouy me.

You can't really trust film reviews. They all rate films on how other reviewers rate them, and then you get the ones who try to be all cool and alternative and "real" by going agianst the grain. In reality you can't trust another person's judgement of a film - you have to do it for yourself, especially when it's such a subjective process and they're all overly critical of everything anyways.
