Went to an early morning showing which started at 1am this morning (which made me feel exceptionally geeky not to mention tired this morning) and speaking in the style of master Yoda, "like it you will".
George Lucas has nearly, very nearly, redeemed himself for the monumental balls-up that is EP1. The battle scenes (of which there are probably too many if you want to be overly critical, but I guess it is set during a war) are just stunning, the lightsaber fights are fantastic, and the Star Wars atmosphere is overall a bit more like the original series of films. The way the film ties all the ends together to set it up for A New Hope is also done brilliantly, and it left me with quite a satsified feeling to finally see the kind of closure we all knew was coming.
I'll leave the long-winded reviews which break down every aspect of the film in microscopic detail to others, and simply say it was a darn enjoyable film, not quite sure if you'd ever say it was better than EPs 4, 5 or 6, but it certainly dumps over EPs 1 & 2 from a very great height.

If i was doing it I would have had Vader rising to the really loud Darth Vader music (You know the music they all start humming in that Orange Advert where Darth Vader has an idea for a film) and then it would cut off and you would hear the first couple of breaths.

It would only take this for me.
"turn to the dark side"
-"k"
loads of it seemed really rushed and so much is missing from the book that parts almost don't make sense.

Eh?
How Vader in the suit was first revealed was really well done. No music, no sounds except the last few breaths outside the suit, then silence. And at that point all the sweet-paper rustling in the cinema had stopped, because everyone in it knew this was a big moment.
I've just got back from seeing it and I was pleasantly suprised. The guy who plays Anakin still can't deliver lines properly but I cringed less than in the first two prequels. I guess as an ex-massive fanboy I just loved seeing loads of things linking the film to the originals - the creation of the Death Star at the end, and the finale with Tatooine's twin suns.
Good film, go watch.

Why is Jesus dressed like John Travolta in Saturday Night Fever by the way?
there were too many "look! we're a kids film too!" moments to start with (the massive echo from the small communicator and the resulting hilarious hiding, and the bit where R2 zaps that robot and it kicks him, for example) and anakins turn was painfully quick:
"turn to the dark side"
-"no"
"go on"
-"oh alright"
the first vader breaths were pretty cool though, but it went pretty much as i expected, it was rushed because the first 2 prequals (especially ep.1) wasted too much time on effects laden sequences (pod race) rather than progressing the story at a sensible pace.
