It appears they are not nearly as big as they deserve to be and I am using them as a perfect opportunity to promote a great band that didn't break it big. I think it's ridiculous that I hadn't heard of these guys, yet there is tons and tons of crap on any "chart" in the UK.
Having got and listened to, fully, their second album (With the Tides - 2003), I can tell you that they are brilliant. They're quite mixed and remind me of many bands as well as having a style I can't link to others.
As an example the first song on this album has a drum rhythm I would associate with Drum and Bass or far heavier rock, but instead it merges quite well with a pleasant vibrant style, not too heavy or overly bassy at all. Through out the album, there are some really brilliant and beautiful riffs and arpeggios accompanied by some really pure and provocative singing. The lyrics aren't amazingly good, but they accompany the music well.
I haven't received my order of their first album yet, but it's supposed to be even better. I just can't wait.
So remember the name, South.
So, yeah, thanks for the heads-up. :)

Umm... It's sort of more of the same, though a lot less acoustic based than From Here On In (which I maintain is the best of the two). They're recording a new album at the moment apparently and've been playing a few of the new songs in their recent sets. Sound pretty good.
http://www.south.uk.net Check out the downloads section for some songs. Loosen Your Hold's on there and a couple of acoustic/live versions of some other tracks.

There be Loosen Your Hold, Paint The Silence & Here On In.
www.alltheweb.com/ (space) ?cat=mp3&cs=utf8&q=&rys=0&_sb_lang=pref. Search there for some others, seems to give some good results.

I'm going to keep popping this threads until the brilliance of South is spread throughout these forums. Come on people, just a couple of random downloads aren't going to kill you are they? Go go go...
So far its pretty good.
Everyone buy.

They are great and their mixture of types makes atleast 2 of their songs per album appeal to anybody. They were practically as varied as Stereophonics to Radiohead.
