For FFF, Rasta and myself (and hopefully for the rest of you) I have started this topic to enlighten you about the brilliance of a band called South.

It appears they are not nearly as big as they deserve to be and I am using them as a perfect opportunity to promote a great band that didn't break it big. I think it's ridiculous that I hadn't heard of these guys, yet there is tons and tons of crap on any "chart" in the UK.

Having got and listened to, fully, their second album (With the Tides - 2003), I can tell you that they are brilliant. They're quite mixed and remind me of many bands as well as having a style I can't link to others.

As an example the first song on this album has a drum rhythm I would associate with Drum and Bass or far heavier rock, but instead it merges quite well with a pleasant vibrant style, not too heavy or overly bassy at all. Through out the album, there are some really brilliant and beautiful riffs and arpeggios accompanied by some really pure and provocative singing. The lyrics aren't amazingly good, but they accompany the music well.

I haven't received my order of their first album yet, but it's supposed to be even better. I just can't wait.

So remember the name, South.

WTT and FHOI have finally been displaced from my stereo. Listened to WTT again yesterday though. Both WTT and FHOI easily rank as two of my favourite albums of all time. Pure genius, both of them.

South rule. Who else could use a banjo in the exultant chorus of a "rock" song?

Bah, I can't be bothered anymore. Suffice to say you're a girly girl who wants to be a girl so you can shamelessly girl it up :-)

Listened to FHOI through twice today. Still awesome.

I've found a new Michelle Branch these days, the mighty Rachel Yamagata. I found her via the O.C.

She's no Michelle though, really.

You big girl. Yeah that's right, go and cry, listen to Michelle Branch and watch Sex & The City.

I forgot to mention, last night, when I was lying in bed the wierdest thing happened. I was listening to With the Tides, sleepy and lying under the covers. There was a time during Colours in Waves when I actually thought I was floating for a secong. It was the strangest sensory feeling I'd ever had and I had to grab onto the sides of my bed quickly to reassure I was lyng on it.

Maybe because I was tired, but that's some freaky stuff...

Yeah same. Threadbare's up there too, as well as Southern Climbs. And I really like Broken Head II as well :-)
