Simple stupid question, those of you who drive, was it like a learning curve or was it just like "click" one lesson and you could do it?

I officially quit driving today until further notice, mostly because I fear for my own life whilst driving, also partly due to lack of money.

Is it just "one of those things" that some people do naturally and others struggle to adapt to, or am I just completely carp (yes, carp) at it for no understandable reason?

I'm going to learn to drive soon. EB said that if he gets this car he's looking at then he'll put me on the insurance and teach me, but I got to wait til Jan when he'll have been driving for 3 years.

I hate people who don't indicate. I hate being on a motorway now since the crash, everyone just goes from lane to lane without indicating.

That is very annoying.
Especially on massive, busy roundabouts when people don't indicate.

I wouldn't think it's a very good idea getting someone you know to teach you how to drive. Firstly, you'll pick up all his own little faults that everyone gets after their test. You won't have the dual pedals, so at first he'll have no way of helping if you do something wrong. And it's actually very difficult to tell someone how to drive without being an instructor, as most of it is done by feel as it were.

etc.

or people who sit on other people's bumpers.

FFF, do you drive?

[edit] Well, I'm going to be having lessons for about 6 months before I can get insured on his car, it'll just be a few extra lessons. EB is actually a good driver, I don't think he has any bad habbits.

Yeah ... well, right at the end of learning.
We'll see in a few weeks if I can actually drive on my own (legally)

Ah, lessons before hand are an excellent idea.
Truth is, from that time onwards it should just be polishing-up your driving, really, so you'll save a load of money as usually you'd just be paying for time in the car, rather than actually learning anything.

Everyone picks up bad habits, seriously.
Well ... probably not bad habits - they don't hurt anyone, and probably make thing a bit easier, but if you did them in the exam, you'd get marked down for it. If you get what I mean.

Yeah he'll just come in the car with me incase I cry. He lets me drive his car round the car park and he says I have good clutch control, but I get a bit scared going over..oooh I dunna, 5 mph! I'll proberly be one of those careful, slow drivers that anoy you.

I know what you mean, but, like, well when he's driving he look at the road all the time, and if I say something to him he'll be like 'yeh yeh yeh, i know, uh huh' then later on he'll be like 'when did you tell me that??'

He's always checking his mirrors and stuff, I suppose if anyone was to give me extra lessons he'd be the best one to do so.

I can't drive my instructors car.

I'd had what, 18 lessons before I got into my mums car, and I was terrible.
2 days in taht car and I was fantastic.
After my next lesson I had improved considerably.

I'm still terrible in his car compared to my mums though.

I hate it. Hate it hate it hate it.

Nissan Almera = gay-assed car.

Renault Clio = wondercar

My test is on June 9th.
In my instructors car.
:'-(

And I'm not insured on my mums car, so if I crash, I'm fooked.
But I won't crash.

And what do I hate?

People who overtake me because I'm a learner then take 15 minutes to get away from traffic lights, or drive too slow.

I hate them and I want to smash up their cars.

I especially hate the ones who stall at lights when I'm behind them.
I hate them hate them hate them.

The only "bad" habit I have is the way I steer.

"murgh murgh murgh, don't cross over your arms"

They're not crossed, they're nearly crossed, but they make steering:

A: Easier
B: Safer (because you can turn a lot faster)
C: Cooler looking
