Apparently, the Xbox's hard disk is only going to be only 8MB, which, compared to PS2's 40MB, seems pretty paltry.

On the contray... th HDD is optional... one of the benefits of buying it is that you can dowloads some new games and levels off the net... just like for the PC.

It's nothing compulsary

Mmmm... Does that mean Sony are going to make owing a HD with your PS2 pretty much essential? With some games comming out as download only?

Which would mean that current PS2 owners will have ended up paying 399 for their consoles...

And people who buy the console after the price cut to 200 quid... will still really be paying 300... making it the same price as the X-Box?

You've gotta remeber 2 things:

1) The main use for the Xbox Hard drive will be sp that the game can be copied directly onto the drive. Things can be accessed far faster from the HDD that the CD= almost no loading times!

2) The 8Gb drive is still HUGE! The PC I am using now has a 3 GB drive... and I ain't used half of it yet! Why anyone would ever need the 40Gb drive is beyond me! And considering the Xbox's one is standard it means that games can be made to use it... rather that on the PS2 where a majority of people won't have one, so games can't utilise it very much.

The only problem with Broadband Internet is that it isn't widely available in the UK.
Of course, when the PS2 HDD does get released, the high profile interest from a strong user base should really get it going. But that isn't for certain.

Dont forget that Sony want to introduce downloading games instead of buying them. Thats why they will have the broadband internet. I agree that 40Gb is very large but Hard Disks are so cheap these days that large Hard Disks are actually better value than smaller ones. I know a friend who said that someone picked up 2 40Gb U-DMA100 for £100. That is 80Gb for £100. I think that a 40Gb is a sensiable size as the biggest DVD is about 18Gb or something like that. 8Gb maybe alright at the moment but a DVD is alot bigger and if games are to be stored on it then it will need to be bigger.

8GB is enough then.

I've only got 6.4GB on my PC and that's enough to install loads of games on!

No... it is hard disk space. Just GB, not MB.

It's most likely Ram not hard disk space!
