I would have thought the overal performance of the PS2 could be improved if they put in 128MB RAM insstead of the 16 or 32 that it has now.
About .MP3's, will you be able to download them off the 'net? To do that you'll have to buy the software, and doesnt Sony control the software that is released on their machines? If they do, some people could see them as encouraging, or at least not helping, illegal .MP3 file transfers, a Napster type situation could occur?
I know for a fact that having copies of TV episodes on your computer, even if you own them on video, is illegal, so again, i cant see Sony endorsing any software that would enable you to do that.

I wouldn't go that far...
Impressive as in, if you don't have a PS2, you won't necessarily buy one because of it... but if you do have a PS2, you'll be sorely tempted!

Where dya get tv episodes! Do they have any late night TV programmes!

Impressive as in... You couldnt do without it?
Impressive as in only being able to play a third of perfect dark without the memory expansion on the N64?

I know that RAM is more expensive, but surely it would have

I knew someone would see this! The real issue is RAM's price... it is sooooo high compared to GBs of memory!
As for the HDD use... they way I make it, it has 2 uses. Saving things off the web in the same way as on a PC. eg. save emails, new levels for games maybe etc.
Secondly, the drive may act as some sort of data store during when games are being played. This will inevitably save times on loading... but I might be sooo wrong!
The reason this is not done on the PS2 is that not everyone has a HDD... making it less likely to be used for extra features... in the same was as not everyone had a Sega CD or 32X, and hence there was little point to make games on them!
Sonic
Sony's online plans were laid out in general terms in many of the magazines a good few months ago. With MagicGate security on the memory cards etc., they also envisage being able to use PS2 (and presumably PS3) for many of the things you would use your PC for; shopping, banking, MP3's, etc.
I can't remember all the specifics at the moment, but their plans were quite impressive. Of course, much of it depends on the availability of broadband in the UK, which doesn't necessarily bode well; however, that's not really Sony's fault, and every other console manufacturer will face the same problems.
