Everybody here is saying that the X-Box is way more powerful than the PS2 just because the processor is 600mhz and the PS2 is 300mhz, you cant just compare the processor speed to gauge the actual performance of the system. The pentium in the x-box is 32bit external and 64bit internal, whereas the ps2 is 128bit, which means it has much higher performance, probably around 3 or 4 times more than a 300mhz x-box would be because if the 32bit external limit, so taking into account that the x-box is 600mhz that means that the PS2 is a third more powerful than the x-box.
This mistake people make is similar to the mistake people make when they think that the new G4 macs are slow compared to pcs just because their PowerPC processors are 500mhz, they infact have the capability to do a billion operations per second a thing that only very latest intel coppermine processors are able to do starting at the 866 one I think.

Anyway i hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

I'm sure it's been said before, but its insane to judge a console before its evenlaunched, all we have to go on are specifications and screenshots. Reserve judgement until the machines have been released and developers get used to programming for them. I mean the psx2 dosen't look that great at the moment, but it's only just come out. The dreamcast is a great example - it's been out for some time now, and we have great games like JetSetRadio - graphically superior to any of the psx2's launch titles. I'm sure that in twelve months we'll really see what the psx2 is capable of. I think the same applies to any console, especially the Xbox, with so many developers behind it I don't see how it can fail, given time. The same applies to gamecube, especially with Rare developing for it. I mean, how long had the snes been out before we saw DonkeyKongCountry? The longer you give a console, the better the games get.

The Game Cube may not be the most powerfull console but it sure as hell will have the best games on the planet the graphics on the Cube are good it runs at a reasonable speed I have a PC it has DVD all i want is something to play my games on not to watch movies or have the best graphics known to man.
As long as the graphics match or beat the dreamcast then I'm happy.
And lets face it Nintendo and Rare make some of the best games on the planet

a GC will b the worse and the PS" and x-box will have to fight it out. but with the roumour of the add on next year that wil make games possible to run at 120FPS it will comes out on top easily if it is true, but i nowav a PS2 and will b getting an x-box, it would be rude not to :)

The X-box hasnt been released yet, so how can you say it will be rubbish. At least if the X-box is made out of spare PC parts then there shouldnt be a shortage of the machines, Im really annoyed with SONY. With this Launch only the rich are getting a PS2 Console this Christmas, not particularly fair.

140 Gigaflops i dont know where you got that from GPU performance is
measured is Gigapixels, Gigatexels and millions of triangles per
second and according to the specs of the latest and greatest NVIDIA
GeForce2 Ultra can do 1 Gigapixels, 2 Gigatexels and 31 million
triangles per second. It is CPU performance that is measured
in Gigaflops and 140 Gigaflops is equivant to 47 1Ghz PIII processors
and i highly doubt that is what will be put in it.
Now i dont know where you got this information from it i could not
find it anywhere on the xbox.com site, the only references to the
performance of the custom built NVIDIA graphics is that it does 200
million polygons per second.

We are checking the stats of the X-Box because to god damn contraption is PC-HARDWARE in a console. We don't find that in a proper console. Sega, Nintendo & Sony's consoles are custom made for the purpose. Console makers should put the effort in to make a console for it's purpose. Not a machine which you could take apart and sell the parts for second hand pc-parts and come out with a profit. (even if microsoft are only a software company!)Sony have designed it's PS2 to be super-versatile for the entertainment needs of the whole family. They have made sure that the console appeals to a wide variety of demographics. Not just PC-Gamers or Kids. That is why PSX with such unremarkable hardware revolutionised and ruled the world of home entertainment and gaming as a whole. Cheap to produce is one of the reasons why there are over 75 million of them being played right now.

It doesn't matter wich one will be better then the other!!
people don't give a damn about if the x-box will be faster than the playstation2! It doesn't matter!!!

people want GAMES!!!!
the console that will have the better games, will sell more!
playstation games are good and nintendo's too
but i prefer computer games!!
we don't care about wich one will be faster than the other
when you buy a console will you look at the box and say "Oh wow, this one is faster..." IT DOESNT MATTER!!!!!!

Me i know i will buy the game cube because i love zelda and metroid
not because it might be faster than the other....

you check stats when you compare like 2 computer cards like voodoo cards and nvidia cards

not console!
hope you understand
