Everybody here is saying that the X-Box is way more powerful than the PS2 just because the processor is 600mhz and the PS2 is 300mhz, you cant just compare the processor speed to gauge the actual performance of the system. The pentium in the x-box is 32bit external and 64bit internal, whereas the ps2 is 128bit, which means it has much higher performance, probably around 3 or 4 times more than a 300mhz x-box would be because if the 32bit external limit, so taking into account that the x-box is 600mhz that means that the PS2 is a third more powerful than the x-box.
This mistake people make is similar to the mistake people make when they think that the new G4 macs are slow compared to pcs just because their PowerPC processors are 500mhz, they infact have the capability to do a billion operations per second a thing that only very latest intel coppermine processors are able to do starting at the 866 one I think.

Anyway i hope this clears up any misunderstanding.

Redobson I think you are trying to find any excuse to make the X-box seem ****

Your research of the Xbox is completely wrong.
Go to www.xbox.com and find just how god the X-box is.

I think you have not got the money to buy the X-box cause you bought the crappy PS2 (When compared to X-box of course)
so you just trying to make the X-box look rubbish so you can feel better.

Sorry mate.

Having said this don't feel bad about having a PS2 because there are some great games out there which look to have a good affect on the PS2.

I just can't wait to see your faces when X-BOX comes your be stunned by its brilliance.
Just keep slagging it off but in the end you will be weeping for buying a PS2 and not X-BOX.
When PS2 first came out the games were crap!
The games just looked like PS1 games but now look how the games have improved they look excellent especially FFX and MGS2.

You look at X-box and you think to yourself this looks no different from the PS2 so you go on believing that but let me tell you this: there's a game that is going to come out on the X-box called Metal Gear X which is said to be MGS2,
if MGS2 looks excellent on the PS2 then it would look even more better on the X-BOX because the X-BOX is faster than PS2, better graphics and more memory.

Those of you who are not going to buy the X-BOX I feel for you!!!!

The xbox isn't that great it's just that familiar hype that microsoft are trying to create.I saw it running on tv and it's nothing like a ps2.just keep this in mind-->

By the time the X box is released the PS2 will have the hard drive/internet and all it's great game line up's released and it will be the one to own and the xbox will just be on it's own.and if thats not enough by the time the xbox gets going (and we've all seen how long it takes)The playstation 3 will be released and microsoft would have flopped by then so stick with the playstation or the gamecube which is great for kids but don't get the xbox it's just a microsoft experiment for more money but they will never take over nintendo and sony they're too powerfull and far too smart.

Okay so its the same old, This one is better than that argument. I have had a playstation for many years and still use it, Why because they still produce damn fine games on it.
I also have a very powerfull PC, And i still use it. Because games do look and sound better on a PC.
But for instant playabilty the PS wins.

Now the problem you have to remember the XBox is of course just a PC. Nothing else, Okay so its got the new Nvidia Gforce 3 chips in it. But they will be widely availabe on a PC anyway. So it is after all just a PC, A lower spec than mine i might add. So why would i buy one?

Well if they produce damn fine games on it, That look good, You then have what has never been herd of, An Instant PC, Or as Ole B.Gates calls it an XBox. But if i buy a Geforce 3, My macine will probably better than the XBox.

So wheres the problem?..... Well its good ole Bill again, As we all know he gets his own way, And will the PC community be seing games come out first on the XBox or the PC?. Methinks it will be the XBox, if He gets his own way. Which he will if enough people buy the XB. If not the software developers just will not play ball. I mean how many of you were waiting to get hold of HALO on the PC?. When do you think you`ll get it?........

So the difference with the PS2 is an obvious one, Its not a PC in disguise, So alot of games will be new, comming out on the PS2 and will be converted. Thats not because Sony dictate it though, Just because the PS2 is different. Its not related to the PC its a totally different machine, Which again make it hard to compare the two. Specs don`t always make a machine. Look where the DreamCast is now, A far superior machine on Paper than the playstation, But dead already.

Nuff said,.

Just remember the Xbox is nothing more than a PC running a cut down version of windows, Just allows Microsoft to put a licensce on games that all developers will have to pay for every game, Something he cannot do with a PC.

Have fun

I have a PS2, and I'm loving it. I will get an X-Box, for Munch's Oddysee... and perhaps the Matrix if it turns out good. (Hell, it will!)

I totally agree that X-Box will have a long fight against PS2:
1) Microsoft already rule the world with Windows and Pcs
Apple Computers are better, but does your office run on
Macs ??
Linux is better - Do you use it ?
There is more than 5 better Internet Browsers than IE5 -
Are they the most used ?
2) Anyone with a little bit of a brain who wants to keep
a dynamic console market ( for the time being) and
who does not want to finance Bill Gates latest holiday
will buy anything but an xbox

By the time those two have finished fighting, we will most likley find out, that Digital TV has actually not stopped evolving and there is more to play than some stupid kids games, actually your digital TV is already connected to the Internet, so the possibility of not having to buy another console ever and be able to play games online on your telly ( shouldn't be too difficult to upgrade your digibox to satellite or cable modem)......sounds like a dreamcast with the added feature of being able to receive 900 TV stations

My oh my wot a load of **** some people talk.

The X-Box is by far the most powerfull machine out there.

No one should even compare the inferior PS2 with it....

1) The GPU (graphics processor unit) runs at 250 MHZ, almost as much as the system CPU "emotion thingy"in PS2.

2)The demo which was shown at the press conference was running on a CURRENT pc graphics chip, the GeForce GTS.
The final graphics chip is FAR superior and hasn't been finished yet.

3)It has twice the system RAM (64MB) of the PS2 and it uses texture compression, which the PS2 doesn't.

4)The system CPU runs a twice the speed (294MHZ vs 733MHZ)

I could go on but the arguement has been won.

The only thing that the X-Box needs are the games. This i dont think will be a problem as they seem to be stealing developers, and their games from Sony already.

All this arguing over hardware figures sounds like a 'my house's bigger than your house' conversation. As I'm sure plenty of you have experience in working with less impressive hardware, you know that it's what you do with it that counts!
If all that's produced on the X-Box is a game of Pong, then I couldn't give a monkeys how many gigaflops it has, I'm not going to buy one.
Is there even a list of launch games available for the x-box?? Has it been launched in Japan or the States??? No! So why would you even consider buying one yet?
Derrrrrrr!!

I/O = the bit that lets bits in and bits out, like serial, modem, controllers. Data input output init, nothing to do with the processor power. all in all to be honest that is one pokey m. f. of an IO controller!!
