Just had a ganda at the list and it's a bit....rubbish really

Wario Ware, Mario 64 and then a load of filler crap are hardly gonna get the hardware flying off the shelves. Judging by the release schedule as well, there won't be any decent games out for a while afterwards either.

Don't get me wrong, I wouldn't pi** on fire to put any of the PSP software out. But MGS and all the other *cool* games are surely gonna tempt the public more than Pokemon dash?

Please tell me I'm wrong and GAME release list is a load of ass.

I disagree with this topic. Sure the launch line up isn't amazing, but it's still very healthy. Mario 64 DS and Wario Ware are no doubt going to be good if not great and the likes of Madden and Tiger Woods will please the sports fans too. Project Rub is a short yet good title and you're also forgetting Rayman DS. The Gameboy Advance version was one of the best launch titles and I imagine this will be similar.

I know I know but the fear is that if the DS proves a failure it could spell doom for the big N.

For the software we have this weeks as the first number and overall (i think) as the second number. Try and spot the PSP game :D. That means there are 5 DS games that have charted since launch (the 3 here, Dash and Ridge Racer) compare that to the one PSP game.

1. Another Century's Episode - PS2 - 180,885 - 180,885
2. Radiata Stories - PS2 - 174,281 - 174,281
3. Biohazard 4 - GC - 142,025 - 142,025
4. Yoshi Touch & Go - NDS - 63,733 - 63,733
5. Digital Devil Saga - PS2 - 51,246 - 51,246
6. Death by Degrees - PS2 - 36,683 - 36,683
7. Monster Hunter G - PS2 - 26,206 - 154,052
8. Gran Turismo 4 - PS2 - 23,524 - 907,949
9. Wario Ware: Touched! - NDS - 22,817 - 358,179
10. Super Mario 64 DS - NDS - 19,824 - 638,601

The hardware here has this weeks as the first figure, this year as the second and for the PSP and DS we have the "since launch" figure.

Hardware

1. PSP - 74,405 - (267,602) - [749,854]
2. PlayStation 2 - 58,673 - (305,285)
3. Nintendo DS - 43,226 - (249,922) - [1,745,518]
4. Game Boy Advance SP - 11,589 - (114,046)
5. GameCube - 8,214 - (40,751)
6. Xbox - 467 - (2,650)
7. Game Boy Advance - 399 - (3,038)

Greater sales don't prove a product is better though.

I am well aware that Sony are making a nasty loss on the console. Which they did to compete more directly with the DS.

I am watching this war very closely.

It is very safe to say Nintendo are definitly making a lot of profit on the DS, 4 DS games have entered the top 10, one has hit the top spot and stayed in there for 2 months. 3 of the games have also been Nintendo branded titles. Mario Party Advance (A GBA game confessingly) also hit the top spot.

I think Yoshi's Touch and Go got in there as well actually but I cannot be certain.

It appears that the high sales in the traditional "quiet" month of January is due to the PSP's low coverage during the launch period. This cannot be certain but it is likely as 70,000 consoles were sold last week and that's a ridiculous number. The DS also sold 40,000 (which is very good), add the 10,000 of the GBA SP and you're looking at a silly handheld sales figure.

Nintendo should have really had an AAA title for about now ready just to halt the growth of the PSP. A big hitter will help launch DS sales and stop the growth of the PSP fanbase.

But I don't think anything is even nearly ready yet.

But they are loosing BIG money! remember they changed the Sharp screens to a more cheaper variety to lower the 'lose money' margin that they have.

They are relying on games to push the commission profits up, something that doesn't seem to be working look at the Japanese top 10.
But they are a wealthy company, not on the scale of Microsoft, but they are wealthy to take losses for the time being until the software picks up.
Plus Sony aren't stupid.

And they still didn't sell out of the full 300,000.

And it can be argued that it is because of the shortage we are getting these high sales in January.

Which backs up my original point that the PSP sales aren't exactly great.

Although the fact that 125,000 handhelds were sold in Japan last week is rather tremendous.
