Several years ago, just as polygons were taking off and 2D games were thought to never be replaced, Shigsy Miyamoto was designing a new game. This was to be a 3D fighter unlike anything the world was to have seen. After spending years months working on the project he gave up. Nintendo were unable to create the game- it was too hartd to program.
Yet! In the same space of time, Sega had been making a very similar game to great effect. It was called Virtua Fighter, and the rest is history...
FAST-FORWARD TO THE PRESENT.
Nintendo are making Zelda 64. It is meant to take 2.5 years to make. Then it is delayed. And delayed. And delayed. Reason? It's taking longer than they thought (NOT they are perfecting it... perfection only takes a few months... the delays lasted a year and a half!)
Same story with many other of Nintendo's latest games.
So what's going wrong? Well, in my view one of 3things might be happening:
1) Overambition means that the games become so complicated they take a long time. However, if this is the case, then why should they underestimate the time needed to make the game so much?
2) The dev kits are too hard to work with. The is certainly a reason why Square abandonned the 64... but who programed the dev kit? Nintendo's r&d department!
3) Nintendo are simply bad at programming games. Now, I don't think that this is very likely... Ninty will use only the best programmers. However, these are the people who could not take to jump from 2d to 3d. Maybe they have not be trained in the new techniques being used, or do not have the flare shown by AM2- the team behing Virtua Fighter, F355,Shenmue and many many others!
So, that's the topic. I for one will wait as long as needed to play the next zelda... my 3rd fav game ever!!! However, while that's happening many other great games will be being made. There's something for u to debate over
Sonic
But it was a MUCH better game for being delayed, with hindsight i'm glad it was out late, although at the time i was slightly annoyed!
It goes to show that all the effort that is put it is worthwhile.
One thing that does annoy me though, when games are delayed, and you're promised extra features, and then the game is released without the extras. UT on the DC is a prime example. We were promised online play, but the european version is released without online functions.
What i want to know is, how much money is wasted by games companies when they do this? Surely it would be better to carry on, get a few more sales with the extra features, and at least make back some of their losses!
This brings me onto another point. Cancelled games. Whats going there then eh? Soul Reaver 2 for the DC was canned, apparantly it was over halfway finished.
I really can't see the point of this, especially as we're told how much games cost to develop these days. I would have thought it would be much more worthwhile to finish the game, sell a few copies on the DC, then just enhance the graphics slightly, add a couple of levels, convert the code and release it as a launch title on the 'Cube of XBox or something.
I know that some people may not agree with what i've said above, about the conversions, but if the game is of good standard in the first place, surely the developers have nothing to worry about? They get extra revenue for little extra work.
I just want to see less DC games get canned. Unless of course the developers didnt think the games would be much cop, in which case we're better off with out them!
Why spend 2.5 years on a game and let a few details get in the way when you can spend an extra year getting the game's standards up and making the world a better place.
I wish...
BUT... there is news now that Luigi's Mansion is not showing a hell of a lot of what it actually is. In other words...
It could quite possibly be part of a larger game, not so much the "catching ghosts". I.E. A Mario Bros game.
So what does this mean, apart from confusing me about if I've won it or not?
Not a lot, actually. :0)

Sounds good to me, round your house Grix?
:-)
The only thing wrong, IMHO, is that they need to broaden their horizons - and their market share/audience - by not aiming solely... no, solely is too strong a word... *primarily* at the younger audience.
This does seem to be happening, though... slowly but surely.
Some of us are much more calm about it though, and truly only believe in the games.

Exactly, which is why I don't like people making those sort of comments.
I mean, I respect that Mario 64, Goldeneye and many others are excellent games, but the PSX also has some quality games. Neither are 'better' in my opinion.

This is the response of a nintendo fan boy who cannot see past his own bias. Games such as FF and MGS are obsolete in his mind coz they're not nintendo games

DO NOT say that without any

Also, Bonus is right, I find the
