Now I hate to be unkind to the man, because he's a nice bloke...just sometimes he tends to go on about stuff for too long. I'm sitting round his house, abusing his broadband via the network he set up for me, and doing unmentionable stuff to his daughter, so I probably appear as a right to$$er for this, but today he was boring me a tad to much, so I tried it on him and it worked! The topic in question was pop-up blockers, but I successfully got it onto table lamps, and continued on and on about a lamp we have at home, until he eventually got up to make a cup of tea and left me alone! Hurrah for me, and my lamp.

Yes, you can use a lamp when the sun is obscured by the moon, or any cellestial body.

Yes, a lamp could be used as an alternative source of light should an unexpected eclipse occur. Be wary though, lamp user, as it takes time to plug in and turn on a lamp, and the eclipse may have passed, or a quicker member of the household could have turned on a different source of light. Of course in the event of an eclipse, we should all be staring at the sun through a pinhole in a piece of cardboard.

It's range is very concentrated, which is good for reading. Especially at night, or on dark days.
