Ok, put a similar topic in the xbox/windows forum but hey.
Broadband being installed tomorrow, and I need some advice re networking and I dont have clue 1 about doing it - so advice is welcome:

A wireless router, plugs into the cable modem from NTL and my pc will feed off this.
So I need a wireless network card then?
My machine already has a Compaq Netelligent 10 T/2 PCI UTP/Coax Controller - would this be one?

So I get a card and plug NTL into the router and voila, I'm away?

I think the XP firewall will protect you if you turn off Norton...think.

Does Norton have an 'allow' list? Probably Firewall/security settings. Have you got Windows XP Service Pack 2?

Yep, stick Norton back on and i can\'t post here.
Why?

I seem unable to view an awful lot of pages now, keep coming up with the "unable to display pages" thing, in fact this will be the 9th time I've tried to type this message.

Yet if I turn off Norton Internet Security ,it works now.
Odd...Zonealarm is still protecting me though, right?

Will you be using xbox live goaty?

Ok, can't find the page on NTL to authenticate my router.
And my router (courtesy of SR) isn't configuring, probably because of the non-authentication.

Here's the set-up and where I may be going wrong?

Modem into PC - fine

And what I'm trying to do but it just gets moody -
Modem into Router
Ethernet from Router into PC
