It's all been going wrong here. My 'copy' of premiere has funked up it won't let me use the mpeg 4 codec that i have to use. Now using virtual dub to put them together but this means no fading transitions :( . One of my renders failed twice which means i have to leave it out.
My presentation is a critical review of my project so far. (so far it's looking shoddy) They are going to rip me apart :( i mean yeah the smoke and the lighting rocks but cause of teh transitions i'm screwed. I was on a first for the project so far now this is going to bring me down to like a 2.1 then i just gotta hope the final version gets me another first.
My brain hurts. I have learnt that 3d animation is too unstable to leave to the night before. Theres a lesson there kidds.
If i get the time tomorrow i will post a link to my animation. It's only 30 seconds and it's for a bbc-i channel Spark. Which i happen to do student stuff for.
Well off to finish it all. Had a rant feel abit better head hurts though.

hehe... slick :)

the second is correct.
this piece of character animation is of a wrestler making his way to the ring, doing all poses and things. the best bit about it was the fact that my research was basically to watch lots of wrestling.. HURRAH! :)

bloody hell.. that's a hell of a time.
some scenes in toy story took 8 hours per frame to render, they were getting a single frame on a cd and it worked out cheaper to build a renderfarm in australia than to ship the frames over on cd's... i'd say we're safe at the moment :)
darkcrystal Your bro has some crazy cool skillz. Like all of them very nice effect with the kung-fu one
Very_Metal What sort of animation you got going on in your new one? Is your render just one frame taking 3 and a half hours or is that so far for the 324 frames? I assume the second.
One of my mates renders took 8 hours for a 3 second clip. Not sure what he put in it to do that probably to many reflection maps or something.

surely that was explained in the manual of your legal and paid-for version of MAX? :P

no, believe it or not i found that on the net :)
honestly, you can find SUCH rubbish... but it's all got a use :)

um.. i can't remember mate.. technically it's only 1 scene with a lot of shots in it. anytime the camera cuts, that was a new shot.
> How long did it take to render with

again, it varies, the closer shots (flyarounds etc) take a lot longer with raytrace materials on them but i DID go a little overboard with raytracers in that animation... the opening shot of about 11 seconds took about 4 hours to render.. and that's the least texture intensive shot of the piece :D
right now i'm rendering my character piece, and the current shot is 324 frames and is taking 3 and a half hours to render at 768*576, 32bit targa frames.
And those animations are really good too, look at the facial expressions! Shame he's moved on from it.

Your right about the movement of the camera one of my uni mates suggested something along the same lines as what you said. Going to change that as it's very easy to do and will only take a few seconds plus a min or 2 for rendering.
Your animation is really cool like the layout. Is the video in the tv yours too? How many scenes was it in total mine was about 6 but then yours is alot longer than mine? How long did it take to render with all the reflections?
only thing i'd say is that in the opening shot the camera stops WAY too abruptly as it reaches the screen, use the curve editor to ease the motion to a halt. and the head in the renders section? the lip's crooked and the ear is too high, other than that, it's all looking good mate!
