Question: Why have Microsoft entered the console market?

Answer: Because they think they will be able to take it over like that, make a load of cash and be one step nearer to owning your brain.

I think MS should just stick to what it's good at. No, not PC OSs, as anyone who have used Linux will tell you, but small apps like IE, Outlook Express (not 2000) and Excel. Maybe Word. Everything else is just total bloat. Did you know, that laser printers cause a miniscule amount of Ozone (toxic). If you were to print out the Windows source code, you kill half the amazon rain forest?

Anyway, Microsoft are cheating. The X-box is using lastest third party hardware, and will be way expensive. And, have you seen the size of the thing! Basic unwritten console law states a console must have a max size of an A4 piece of paper.

Also, MS have no heart, because all they want to do is conquer the market. I believe Sony, Nintendo and Sega actually enjoy making millions of people happy.

Impressive as the specs are, I believe the X-box will fail. Let's face it.

a) It's a small PC

c) It's Microsoft

d) It runs off Windows, for god's sake!!!

opinions?

Not buying something because it's MicroSoft is stupid,

The Dreamcast used parts of the WinCE (palmtop version)source. It didn't run entirely off of that platform, just made it easier for developers to port games from the PC to the Dreamcast.

Still, as far as I know, it was a pretty solid version of Windows...

the X-Bow will be using a new version of Windows... not Win95-ME, so it too should be suitably stable...

They both have their strengths and weaknesses... If your a business then different situations require different OS's... In a lot of cases WinNT/200 range is a preferable option to Linux...

Besides, Unix beats Linux hands down...

I'll have linux and 2000 dual boot on here after i8, but still expect to be using 2000 more, I've had some experience with linux and don't fancy spending 2 days messing around with patches from Loki before I can run any games. Linux has no major advantages for me, nothing I want to do that I can't with 2000, it just makes lewq shut up =/.

What release have you used anyway? Only ever tried redhat/debian

Damn right!!!

Oh, and

I consider myself to know quite a lot about computers, and I don't hate them in the least. I respect them for bringing computers to the mass-market, and they have produced a good line of server operating systems, I run 2000 and am very happy with it. I would defect to linux, but the games support isn't there at the moment.

As I said, Microsoft also have some good gaming hardware out, and some decent apps too. It's really just their home operating system family (95/98/ME) that I don't get on with.

Isn't it only people who know a bit about computers that hate microsoft?

Most people who buy console don't know that much about PC's. They see Microsoft as a great company who makes the thing thier PC runs.

Well thats half the Rainforest gone... You can bet that whilst the cubicled MS minions were writing their section of the OS that they all printed out their code several times over...

Why is that cheating?

What unwritten law is this?

Nope... they want to conquer the market too

a) It's a small PC

I think weve all seen how the PC failed after its few couple of months...

c) It's

Microsoft too, never had a success in their entire careers...

d) It runs off Windows, for god's sake!!!

Didnt the Dreamcast use a version of windows?

I don't particularly care for the quality of either Sony or Microsoft products. Windows is horrible pain in the butt and sony products malfuncion within like a month of using them. I cannot tell you how many people I know with broken playstations, but I know not a single person with a broken N64. Does it not make sense that Nintendo would be better at making gaming systems when that is what they specialize in, rather than Sony which makes everything electronic under the sun?
