Question: Why have Microsoft entered the console market?

Answer: Because they think they will be able to take it over like that, make a load of cash and be one step nearer to owning your brain.

I think MS should just stick to what it's good at. No, not PC OSs, as anyone who have used Linux will tell you, but small apps like IE, Outlook Express (not 2000) and Excel. Maybe Word. Everything else is just total bloat. Did you know, that laser printers cause a miniscule amount of Ozone (toxic). If you were to print out the Windows source code, you kill half the amazon rain forest?

Anyway, Microsoft are cheating. The X-box is using lastest third party hardware, and will be way expensive. And, have you seen the size of the thing! Basic unwritten console law states a console must have a max size of an A4 piece of paper.

Also, MS have no heart, because all they want to do is conquer the market. I believe Sony, Nintendo and Sega actually enjoy making millions of people happy.

Impressive as the specs are, I believe the X-box will fail. Let's face it.

a) It's a small PC

c) It's Microsoft

d) It runs off Windows, for god's sake!!!

opinions?

... But then again... its the long term game companies... Sega and Nintendo that seem to be losing the most out of the competition with these two new upstarts???

And, whatever your thoughts on Sony's roots, they're pretty damn good at being a gaming company.

there's always a first time for everything.

Now, I wonder what happens when I...

Hrm..so a company should only stick to what they make originally and never branch out? Sony should never have made mini-discs? Nintendo should have stuck to card games? A little competition's good for the market.

Not buying something because it's MicroSoft is stupid, they make a quick browser, excellent PC gaming hardware and some good office suite programs. It's too early to make a judgement on the Xbox, but it certainly wont be bad -just- because it's from MicroSoft.

I wouldn't buy an X-Box soley because it's Microsoft. It's bad enough being stuck with Windows and all it's horrible BS. A agree with everything that Turbonutter said. Actually, I also feel like Sony should have stuck with TVs. They're not a gaming company either. The only reason I use my PSX more is because it has the type of games that I prefer. N64 is a multiple player system, which doesn't come into convenience as often as a one player system.

So, we're back on to the "War of the Consoles" topic. Good, I like a good debate.

So, will Microsoft's console succeed. If you ask me, it's going to have a tough time. I mean, it has the Gamecube and the PS2 to contend with. Both Sony and Nintendo have been on the console market for some time now, Nintendo being the one with the most experience, what with SNES, Gameboy (the most successful console ever, so far) and the N64, and Sony may have only been in the console market for about 6 years, but their console, PS1, has been very successful. It knocked out SEGA's Saturn and the N64 didn't fair to good against it. So basically, Microsoft are up against very tough competition.

And of course, lets not forgat, for the console to be successful, it needs good games, and although the launch line up doesn't look to promising at the moment, it's still early days yet.

It's still about 7 or 8 monthes before they launch the Xbox, and by that time the developers would have come to terms with the PS2 and the games coming out should be very good.
Will it be successfull? Don't know, it's to early to put it down now.
