Question: Why have Microsoft entered the console market?

Answer: Because they think they will be able to take it over like that, make a load of cash and be one step nearer to owning your brain.

I think MS should just stick to what it's good at. No, not PC OSs, as anyone who have used Linux will tell you, but small apps like IE, Outlook Express (not 2000) and Excel. Maybe Word. Everything else is just total bloat. Did you know, that laser printers cause a miniscule amount of Ozone (toxic). If you were to print out the Windows source code, you kill half the amazon rain forest?

Anyway, Microsoft are cheating. The X-box is using lastest third party hardware, and will be way expensive. And, have you seen the size of the thing! Basic unwritten console law states a console must have a max size of an A4 piece of paper.

Also, MS have no heart, because all they want to do is conquer the market. I believe Sony, Nintendo and Sega actually enjoy making millions of people happy.

Impressive as the specs are, I believe the X-box will fail. Let's face it.

a) It's a small PC

c) It's Microsoft

d) It runs off Windows, for god's sake!!!

opinions?

But John Gamer knows more than yer average PC user. He knows MS is a sys res wasting pile of crap, and doesn't need reminding of how he lost his English coursework that time when he tried to check his E-mail. Documents are fine, but if you've got to the last level of Red Alert and couldn't be bothered to save, you're in dangerous ground.

You can buy a PC with linux preinstalled, but I build all my own anyway, so I don't have a problem with it. you could always buy.......a mac...

I chose to install win2000 on this, because it's fast, stable, has good support for games (much better than NT), allows multiple logins with a good user management system, and has preinstalled telnet server/admin apps. The task manager actually works, you get system analysis tools, and everything that doesn't come with 98/ME.

Microsoft will mess up with winXP soon enough anyway, unfortunately most of the public will just buy a pc with this preinstalled, and not read about it first.

Nah nah, u dont see Microsoft as a games company do u? but an argument could be that sony wernt seen as a games company but the psx still did pritty well hey. but i suppose its all about timing the release. The psx came around at a good time long before the N64 and sold well as people wanted somthin new. but x-box is coming out same time as GC and i think the safest choice would be to go with the well established "games" company Nintendo.

Exactly why the XBox may well be a big success. People accept MS, they relate to them. They connect them with playing games on their PC, so therefore the same connection will be made with the XBox?

No, the thing is, you don't have a choice. You but any PC, what's it run on?

Software: made for?

Joe public has had MS injected into his brain since 1970 (ish...). It's all he knows.

Microsoft isn't popular, it's just...accepted

and I fail to see how win2k is "quality"

Surely win2000 is their software, not hardware......

That's a perfectly valid point of view. But wrong. Heh.

Never used their hardware? good stuff. Windows 2000 is a quality o/s, however poor their home releases are, and they have some good games under their name (developed by other ocmpanies however).

Don't seem to be bad at making a lot of money. Or creating win3.1, which I still use occasionally. As a thought, how many people use MSN? Would they use it if it was that bad?

(why am I defending M$, I was totally against them a few weeks ago. Must've been luke..but he's a linux user...)
