This is an issue close to my heart and I know its said many times but i'm saying it again.

I went into my local GAME yesterday and to my amazement the Gamecube shelf space has shrunk even smaller. It really was a pitiful sight and quite embarrassing for a die hard Nintendo fan.

The shelf space is now just one block. There were the usual top five slots which were virtually empty and then the 'selection' of naff games underneath. Now yes I suppose you could look at it 2 ways, either they've all sold out (which is laughably unlikely) or that GAME just can't be ars*d with the Gamecube anymore (which I KNOW is whats happening).

Woollies now have hardly any Gamecube stuff. Dixons, Currys, Comet and all those electrical retailers stopped selling it months ago and it looks like even GAME are now on the 'dump Cube' runaway train.

3 years into the life of the N64 was better than this and that was considered a commercial flop.

Nothing to do with revolutionalisation. Just a popular name that people can remember.

Obviously, because 'playstation' has that brand image, you know? Everyone can associate with the 'playstation' because it pretty much revolutionised the gaming world.

Nintendo need to put a stop to that and get some of that mainstream pie.

If shops aren't stocking GameCube then that's up to them.

However, most retailers are stocking GameCubes. It is just the customers aren't buying them.

Like I said already, the customers ask for Playstation. So they get Playstation.

Shops cutting down on the amount of GC's they sell is making an already bad situation worse.

Concept - We know the console isn't dieing, but like many have said in this thread already, if the shops start cutting down their shelve space, it doesn't really give off the 'flourishing console' type of image.

Ok FACT is Nintendo is pushed to the back etc and they dont advertise and pay money for displays and what not, dont notice this at mine but must be happening at most other places. My way of thinking is no matter how much advertisments are made they wont drop the kiddy image and playstation will always be more well known, but, my way of thinking is also not to buy consoles/games just because they are advertised...which the majority of the world seem to disagree with...

Perfect world - Nintendo advertises the same level as the others and games which are released over xbox and PS2 is also released on GC. Then it SHOULD just fall down to exclusive games and how good they are...which i think Nintendo would win.

The console is not dying, it isnt like the only games coming out are from Nintendo, it isnt like they are no longer being produced etc. Yep sure some games arnt being released on the console and the good games arent as popular as they should be. For me two games that i would like to play and own that arnt on the GC would be Halo 1 and 2, and GTA:SA...oh but wait i can soon have them on my PC anyway, and im not one of the people who buy consoles just for one or two games.

I cant get metroid/zelda/mario (and others) anywhere but a GC console so i will continue to keep buying Nintendo consoles. Does it matter how many people own the console, the game that your spending hours on? When i play Zelda i enjoy it, the fact i found it at the back of a shop doesnt bother me, the fact if i was the only person in the world to buy it wouldnt bother me.

Worst case would be Nintendo just do games, end of an era etc but the games will still be played on...thats all i care about. But i dont see this happening for a long time anyway.

Or alternatively ask a sales assistant.

After all, it is what they're paid to do.

Amount of games isn't an issue in this case.

What most are complaining about is the fact that the GC area is poorly layed out, I.e - a small rack with sets of 3 games on top of each other. It's annoying when shops do this because you need to search through each little set for the game that you are looking for.

As much as I dislike the company, it is a fact that Game haven't forgotten about the GameCube.

Sure, not much shop-space was allocated to the GameCube, but what do you expect when Playstation 2 has more than double the amount of titles available and sells so much more?

Not to mention that the gondolas are paid for by the companies promoting their products each week. And the two companies that seem to pay the most for the space are Electronic Arts (who even had specially designed 'towers' to display their titles on) and Sony trying to push sales of their PS2s and the games available for them.

When I worked in Game I regularly spoke with the representatives from Sony and Microsoft who came in with their own posters and leaflets and to check that the displays which they were paying for were in place, whereas I never once saw a Nintendo representative.

This is because Nintendo don't pay Game as much to promote their games. Instead they assume their games are going to sell regardless. And in a sense, they're right. The big money games such as Pokémon sell extremely well. Though there is no longer the situation where games sell out completely like they used to in the Nintendo 64 era. Maybe that is to do with Nintendo being able to produce more stock in a shorter time. I really don't know.

Most people buy consoles from other stores anyway. Stores such as ToysRus and Argos tend to do deals which Game can't beat. All they gain from Game is the ability to get 'reward points' that equate to having 2.5% off when you redeem your points. However, the deals done by the other stores use games which Game don't tend to stock too highly on. The ones which aren't likely to sell so well allowing the other stores to sell them cheap with the consoles. For example, Hulk on PS2 was a bit of a flop. However it was such a cheap game for the retailers to stock anyway that the profits from sale of one or two at full price covered the losses on giving the game away free with a console.

Back on topic though, Game haven't forgotten about GameCube. On the contrary, they support it to a much better degree than some of the other retailers. It's just a lot of the time you've got to ask if they've got the game in the stockroom as chances are, if it ain't a new release, they wont have it on the shop floor.

Though I don't reccomend buying from Game unless they're offering an unbeatable deal.

Their "Best ever sale" for example is quite pitiful.

Dringo my friend, you really need to get a better hobbie than this! How about train spotting?
