Was good to hear the greatest commentating duo in all of sports Al Michaels and the legend John Madden back once again, no one can beat them.
But anyway the game, few interceptions thrown by Manning showing just how average he is and proving once more New England is not his favourite place (Vick and McNabb are far better) and Ty Law spending most of the game on the bench and when he did come on he got schooled by Marvin Harrison (and why Manning wasn't throwing to him more often i've no idea, he's your best reciever you muppet, use him) Great ending as well with McGuinness sacking him and leaving VanDerJagt with a hard field goal which he missed when he should have only had about a 35 yard attempt to knock threw the sticks.
Bring on the rest of the season
People who say the NFL is boring just don't understand it. It's as simple as that. What mattribute says just highlights his ignorance.
Damn Patriots they didn't even play that well. They had 2 decent scoring drives, and the rest of the game they were pretty much shut out. If McNabb hadn't thrown some absolute shockers, the Eagles would have won it with ease. The problem was, that towards the end, they just lost all their belief. You could see it in the way the lumbered up to the line with 4 minutes to go. They were just thinking "it's New England, we can't beat them", but they COULD HAVE. If they'd had better clock management at the end, they would have had a chance. They only needed 2 30yd plays. I know that's a big ask but Philly can do that, they just didn't believe they could. You could see when they didn't get the onside kick - the offense just hung their heads.
In my view, they shouldn't have gone for the onside kick. The chances of them recovering were slim, and they could have got the ball back with 1 minute to go somewhere on their own 30yd line. 1 minute - 30 yds, they could have done it. The defense had been stopping the Patriots all day, except for 2 drives (2 very important drives, though). I wouldn't say that New England were particularly the better team - they just made fewer mistakes. They are also mighty boring to watch. Deion Branch got 11 receptions for 100+ yards but nobody cares because they were all boring catches. Owens played his heart out and was there in the clutch every time. It's a shame that the MVP has to go to the winning team, although I think Branch deserved it.
The thing is, though, that none of the Patriots ever do anything except their job. Branch didn't do anything spectacular, he just caught it when it was thrown to him, and that's how he whole team plays. It makes for a good team but it makes for boring viewing. Every time New England got the ball on offense the whole of the Hippodrome (yey Superbash) just became disinterested, until the Eagles stopped them on 3rd and short or whatever. I'm glad Tom Brady didn't get it, because he isn't anything special for me. There are lots of other quaterbacks who are just as accurate and poised as he is - Trent Green for instance, but they're just not surrounded by such a good team and coaches, so they appear less succesful. Brady only does what he's supposed to, nothing more. He isn't exciting to watch, he doesn't hold your attention, he's just like a throwing machine. Yes he's good, but he's not a gamebreaker.
I hope the Patriots don't make it to the Superbowl next year, or if they do, I hope we'll be there and exact some sweet revenge. I'm excited about next season, and what it will hold for the Eagles, and the NFL in general. i just hope that the Pats don't repeat. Yeah, they're a dynasty, but they're the most boring dynasty I ever saw.

Well thnk about it, the players never get together and discuss how they're going to win.
They get 15 minutes at half-time to say, right, here's how we're going to play for the next 45 minutes, and during the game the manager might go "you, move over there and pass it a bit, etc"
In NFL they get together every 20 seconds to decide what to do next.
BETTER.

Yup as much as it pains me to say it they were the better team just for the fact the didn't make any mistakes. McNabb made a few poor decisions which hurt the team in the end and against the Patriots you can't make mistakes as they will punish you

Indeed, he shocked me with how well he played and how involved he was, think he had 9 catches didn't he at the end for about 125 yards? Just a shame Mitchell was as obvious in the game as a ninja in the shadows
Owens had a great game as well, though, so well done to him after the injury.
all valid points but how about letting those who actually did enjoy the game and want to discuss it instead of badmouthing the game actually discuss it please?
NFL is far more tactical and lots of preparation has to be done in order to not get your ass handed back to you on the Sunday. Rugby to me just seems like 'get the ball, run into defender, give ball to someone else, run into defender and gain another 2 yards and repeat until you get down the other end of the field.
And for those wondering why they wear pads? Go watch the 3rd play of the Patriots first drive i think it was when their receiver got smashed by two guys from both sides. Without pads that's a broken back right there. (Not that the pads do much, you still feel like you've been hit by a truck after the game)
Anyway after all that - Damn Boston scummers, now i've got to listen to media claim how they're so good, how they're a dynasty, best team ever and all that bloody nonsense
Simple.
You're honestly HONESTLY trying to argue that football and rugby...have no tactics involved?
