I currently have 256, and am upgrading and stuff.

I have a Gigabyte 7VTX motherboard.
Anyway - is it possible for me just to get a 512mb stick (that's compatible, obviously)?

It's just I rarely hear of people saying they have 768mb of RAM - it's always a gig, 512, or 256.

And also - is it worth going for over 512 when I could always just get a 256 stick to make it up to 512?

Cheers.

Actually, I'm going to guess 333.

So I need PC2100 then?
RAM is so fun.

Bah.

I want to order some tonight, so Turbonutter or Adrian or something better appear.
Grr.

Unless the magical djerrud can conclude Sloan style whether 786MB RAM running at 133Mhz is faster than 512MB RAM running at 333Mhz?

No you can get PC800 and other types. Don't worry about it too much. What you've got to work out is whether 786MB RAM running at 133Mhz is faster than 512MB Ram running at 333Mhz or whatever the RAM you would get is.

That's why I'm asking for advice dear Chipseh.
Ta.

Also - I've digged up the manual, and it confuses me a little.

Under the specs bit, it says (and I quote, ahar);

"Memory:

3 184-pin DDR sockets [that's fine]
Supports DDR DRAM PC200/266 [this is what confuses me - the PC200/266 bit]"

And there's a little more which is fine.
Anyway - could someone clarify the PC200 bit please? I thought there was only PC2700 and other 4 digit thingies.

Ta.

If you combine a faster chip with a slower one, the faster chip will be forced to run at the same speed as the slower chip.

Also, since it's DDR, I suggest fitting it in pairs.

So should I remove my old one, and replace witht he above?
Or should I just put the above in with what I already have?

Cheers.

Pentium 4 1.7Ghz.

I don't know if I can be bothered updating my PC, seeing as it will be out of date and rubbish in a couple of months or so anyway. I'll just wait until I can get a nice laptop.
