Say "YES, I like it" if you think it is a good idea to have the new "identifiers" under your name. The four identifiers (dare I say "status") are"
Staff
Newbie
Regular
Notable
Vote "NO, I don't like it" if they don't suit you.
Thanks
(When do I get to go up to Newbie?)
Regular status arrives after 300 posts providing they contain over 7500 words.
One Notable is voted in every three months.
In fact I have another account which I use from time to time.
Often to post daft things to wind people up.
Like when I went onto the PS2 forum as Dr Robotnik, and posted "Playstation 2: The T urd Place". A work of genuine genius, I'm sure you'll agree.
Then there was Oddjob's "Console Wars" post, which was utterly dire, but lead to a very good winning post from RBS.
If they do that it will still come up as a newbie and no-one will know.
Meka, that could well be the comedy highlight of my day, no mean feat i can assure you!
Thats a GAD win if ever i saw one!

It's awful mistakes like these, that make you a Regular, and me a Notable. :-p
I say keep them, it'll let us know if someone has just changed their name to look like a newbie, or if they truely are a newbie.
Mind you, I think 'Newcomer' would probably be seen as a more suitable term, as I often only see the term 'newbie' used in sentences like:
"Stupid newbie doesn't know what he's on about" etc
Dont just post loads of raubbish to get to the 300 mark. Just keep posting sensibly and don't worry about it.
:-)

Oh... poo! That should of course be "judge them", not "just them" !!!

Fair point I suppose, but for me the use 'newbie' as an insult is a twisted mis-use of the term, and should be ignored. For me, "Member" also implies that the person is actually a member of the SR Club, which is not always likely. Maybe "Newcomer" is better?

To be honest, I'm not fussed! Following on from what you say about helping people out, I'd rather be listed as a "Helper" than a "Notable". Maybe there could be another indicator of some kind attributed to those "Regulars" who know their stuff when it comes to certain platforms?
Many 'newbies' only post a few messages in search of assistance with a particular problem. Maybe it would help build a feeling of 'community' with them - and encourage them to stay - if there were 'helpers' for each platform? Possibly unworkable, but a nice idea... well, I thought so!
If it's a poor idea, I apologise... it's late and I'm tired, and it seemed like a good idea at the time.
I'm off to bed... nighty-night!
