Convicted rapist wins £7 million whilst on day release from his life sentence of...7 years? Doesn't sound much like a life sentence to me, but I'm sketchy on the law of this. Lucky bloke though - 7 year holiday, then gets a massive bundle of cash right near the end!

What are the chances, meh, meeeeeeh!?!

Someone asked me the other day..if you found yourself homeless and jobless and living on the street for whatever reason, would you commit a crime in order to go to prison for a roof over your head and meals every day?

Not quite. If this was to happen the battered wife, or the heartbroken man will plead provocation and then it is up to the judge to reduce the charge to manslaughter which doesn't carry a compulsory life sentence.

Ever been to a prison? A holiday camp it is not.

Typically ignorant statement from a typically ignorant man. Have to do something pretty bad to get sent to prison in the first place? What a crock of toss. Non-payment of tax can get you sent to prison. So can illegal downloads as it happens, and I don't think you'd really like that, would you?

Life meaning life? Okay, so that means that the battered wife who snaps and kills her husband stays in for life. As does the man who found his wife in bed with another man and kills one or both of 'em in the heat of the moment. How about changing the mandatory life sentence for murder so that the only life sentences that get handed out actually are for life? Is that what you were trying to say via the headlines you cribbed from the Daily Mail?

Were it not for the fact that your whole experience on this matter consists of what you've gained whilst living your 22 years of life with your parents, and that you couldn't be any more closeted from the real world if you were in Narnia, maybe someone would take you seriously.

I think the point is that a majority believe prison should be a punishment, not some kind of holiday camp. The outrage over the creme egg story (going by what you say here as I never heard about it) would undoubtedly be over the fact that the prisoners are not in prison to get treats or free stuff, regardless of the value of that treat. Same with stuff like televisions - rest of us have to pay for a licence fee!

Sure, for some people prison does more harm than good, but maybe they should have thought about that before they did what they did, because today you have to do something pretty bad to even get sent to jail in the first place. As for people on life sentence, it should mean life, not just 10, 20 or whatever, life.

I keep getting an error message saying something about explorer not being able to download the posted document. I think they've changed the firewall at work again.

Every friday another piece of my internet life is effected.

I agree. The tabloids always point out the cost to the "tax payer" whenever prisoners are treated with some humainty. Last Easter, in one prison, all the inmates were given a Cadbury's cream egg at a cost of "£400" to the taxpayer.

Outrage!! No wonder crime levels are soaring; everyone wants the chance to get a FREE Cream egg when they are locked up. Of course I was suprised that none of the prisoners sued the Government for offending their beliefs. Kinder eggs would have been more appropriate and they prison bosses shold have put one file into every 500 eggs. Then the lags would have something to look forward too.

Better odds than winning the lottery and of course we all know that no prisoner will ever win that!!
