Units sold
249,000 DS
267,000 PSP
Nintendo need to do some thing fast if they want to stay in the game. In Japan, Nintendo should be able to crush Sony, but it appears they can't, even remembering DS was launched before PSP there.
If the trend is repeated world wide, and Sony PSP continue's to increase it's lead, where will that leave DS? Being pushed into 2nd place world wide is a real possibility now, which would in turn have an effect on developers who want to design for the most used system. Add to that the low number of Nintendo GameCube's, an we have to ask, what is the future for Nintendo?

So over the last month, the PSP has beaten the DS by just 10,000 units, less than 4% difference. If there's a catch up at this rate, it might take years! And anyway, devellopers won't ditch the DS unless it's significantly behind the PSP, like half as many sales or something silly like that. And I still think that the DS will come out on top in the end, even if the PSP has the gleaming first impression to give it the early advantage.
And Nintendo are doing fine with the Gamecube.
Sure, they're not half as minted as Sony is over the PS2, but who is?
Infact, for a long time they were making more profit than Sony, simply because they were making bigger profits on smaller sales through good budgeting, while Sony just threw as much money as they could at the PS2 (which worked, but if it hadn't... :-S).

That may have been true, but GamCube is now the cheapest to buy of all 3 consoles. £80, so there's not so much money being made on it now - dont forget the shops %, then VAT, then the cost to make it. Only the bit thats left over is clear profit for Nintendo.
The first few million units make back money spent on designing it, producing it and making the machines for mass production.
Once that's paid for, mass production rolls them out relatively cheaply and it's just advertising that has to be paid back, and we all know how much advertising Nintendo do. :-)
Most of the profit comes from game sales (where ALL Sony and MS' profit comes from) and Nintendo get a large amount from that.
Sure, not as much Sony get, but who in the world does? :-P

I think you will find that this statement is not exactly correct.
Week on Week for the last three weeks the PSP sales have out grown the DS.
3 weeks ago 44,000 ds 55,000 psp
2 weeks ago 44.000 ds 66.000 psp
1 week ago 43,000 ds 74,000 psp
PSP sales have grown 3 fold where as ds sales have stagnated.
The Magic Box site has all the hardware and software sale info for Japan.

Why do you feel the need to post this here? What possible benefit can it be to you to do this? Do you do it just because you get a kick out of riling up Nintendo fanboys? Answer me.
Don't feed the trolls people.

I would hardly call 249,000 units 'slowing to a crawl' !!!!
Troll.
