Is dangerously addictive, almost impossibly deep, and is a truly marvellous management spectacle.

It is also frustrating beyond words, often truly ridiculous and is a cause of premature mental instability.

Man, you're talking about two different parts of the rule!

AJ - the Bosman ruling has absolutely nothing to do with signing players - in a FM context, it does, but that's beside the point. Simply put, after a case in 1990 (Jean-Mark Bosman was the player in question), player's where allowed to move clubs freely when their contract ran out. Before, the club could retain them for as long as they wanted.

Mozzy - that's true. But, it's not the same thing, again. Say if I try to sign Kalou (22), Giggs (30) and Morientes (27). Both Morientes and Kalou have 5 months remaining on their contract,Giggs has 8 months left.

Giggs is worth £8,000,000, Morienties is worth £12,000,000 and Kalou is worth £10,000,000.

When I try to sign Morientes, because he has less than 6 months left and is older than 24, I don't need to play Liverpool any compensation.

As Giggs has 8 months left, I have to pay Man Utd his value in compensation, £8,000,000.

Kalou, whilst his contract has less than 6 months remaing, is under 24, so I must pay compensation - however, this does not ammount to his value - even though he is worth £10,000,000, I only have to pay Monaco £1,500,000 - a fee decided at random by the game (or, as they call it, an "indepent tribunal". The reason this is so rare is because all to often clubs retain players under 24, as their wages aren't generally that large.

Hope that sorts it out :D.

I was using Patch 5.0.2 but now I have got my new (non-pirated) FM2005 I have downloaded Patch 5.0.5.

So mine may well have changed as well.

I'll check in a minute as i'm coming up to the 1st of Jan...

Maybe the patch I'm using has edited this rule in some way, then, because I definitely got Santana on a free. Hang on, I'll just check.

Edit - Can't check right now as I've deleted the game in which I was Atletico Madrid and had signed him. When my current Liverpool game gets to the stage of Bosmans again, then I'll check and see if I can get a player for free if they're under 24. I'm sure I can, but I may have actually got him and paid his full value (I was loaded at Atletico and wouldn't have noticed :-D).

Oh.

Well, thats what it says in the Manual (pg.40) but if you definately signed Santana when he was under 24 then you must be right.

The patch will only come into play in new games started. So no, it won't affect your current PSV game. It won't even allow the updates you're wanting. You have to start a new game for them to take effect.

Nah, that's not the case.

If a player's contract is unprotected and has over 6 months left before it runs out then you have to pay compensation.

If a player's contract is unprotected and has under 6 months left before it runs out then you don't pay anything.

Once a player has reached 17 and signed a professional contract, ages have no effect on the Bosman ruling whatsoever. Dede is over 24 and I got him on a free, and Santana (Argentinian 22-year-old) is under, and I still got him on a free.

Cheers AJ, I haven't got Vanden Borre or Adu yet because I had to go back a few months in my game (im still annoyed about that...).

I dont think FM2005 will suit any Handheld, but doesn't anyone else think the Ds would've been a better handheld for FM? It has touch screen, longer battery life and two screens - one for tactics and one for the actual match...

Meh, it won't be very good.

It's too much of a PC game. Screen won't be big enough on the PSP for all the information, and any attempt at getting decent loading times will be a complete failure.

I'll stick with the PC version.

Adu and Vanden Borre I'd suggest putting into the reserves (Adu for 2 or 3 seasons to allow him to really develop). Guarin is pretty much ready for your first team, but if you have too many central midfielders then try and send him out on loan for a season. Vanden Borre is able to come out of the reserves at the start of the 2005/2006 season, as he's good enough at 17, but if you can loan him out then that does him good as well. Keep Adu in the reserves for the first two seasons, and then maybe loan him out the third before bringing him into your team. He's very much a player for the future.

You really do. I always send quite a lot of players to the reserves. My aim is to have a squad of 23 at all times, as this is more than enough. If you do get injuries you can call up some extras from the reserves, but there shouldn't really be any need to do this.

Just put all players that are valued under a couple of million in the reserves, or if you don't feel they're required.

Hi peeps, just got back from my exam and boy was it easy! We had an hour to do it and I managed to get through it in 25 mins. I feel sorry for the people who took a bit longer than everyone else though because as soon as there was about 20 mins left people started humming, coughing and just being idiots really.

Anyway, im so happy now cause I was expecting this IT exam to be hard but it wasn't and I still have the rest of the day to play FM2005....plus I got my new FM2005 through the post so im gonna install that and download the new patch.

If I download the patch will it affect my current game with PSV?

ooops, four posts in a row. sorry...

EDIT | I KNEW IT!!! ARGH!!!!!

I un-installed my current FM 2005 so that I could re-install my new one but before I un-installed it I copied the PSV save to MyDocuments, the thing is, there weere 3 PSV saves - PSV, PSV V2 and PSV V3...so I chose PSV V3 because I though that was probably the latest one.

BUT IT WASN'T!!!! >:(

And now im back to November!!! It's only 2 months i've gfone back but I did so many thing during them 2 months!!!

I did the Bosman thing, got Freddy Adu, Guarin, Vanden Borre!!!

Okay...I must calm down. It's not the end of the world, I can get through this...

Jeez, I must've editted this post at least 10 times already. Anyway AJ, I found out the rule for the Bosman thing - If the player is under 24 years old you HAVE to pay the club compensation but if he is over 24 you don't.
