Is dangerously addictive, almost impossibly deep, and is a truly marvellous management spectacle.

It is also frustrating beyond words, often truly ridiculous and is a cause of premature mental instability.

I love Football Manager '05

I haven't been on FM for like...5 hours.

I don't really enjoy managing a English team, reason why is because I know what all of the teams are like and it just doesn't seem very interesting. Plus I worry that I might get mixed up with the Premiership on FM and the real Premiership:

Me : "Arsenal v Chelsea tonight, can't wait"

Friend : "What?"

Me : "Oh hold on, thats on FM..."

Friend(s) : *point and laughs*

Managing a foriegn team is more interesting, well for me anyway because im not familiar with the squad, don't know what the players are like etc so its interesting for me to learn which players are good and which ones aren't rather than knowing it all already.

I chose Valencia because I only know a couple of their players and at least they're still in a league where a know a few of the other teams (Barcelona, Madrid, Deportivo etc).

Well, I offered for every job that was available when I was unemployed.

That was 2 jobs in the Brazilian Premier division and one in the Argentinian Second division, plus Morton.

First to reply was Morton, who offered me the job right away, so I took it. Probably wouldn't have got the others if I'd not taken the Morton, though, as I think where you come from and the language you speak (which relates to your location) play a part in the decision.

I waited about 3 days (FM time). If you somehow get refused the job that's there originally, I'm not sure how long you have to wait.

Thats exactly what I did and it's still slow, but its a Laptop so im not surpised, it isn't made to play games.

Nevermind, today im gonna make a new game and possibly do what AJ said he did and start unemployed. I just don't want to sit there for a whole season waiting for someone to offer me a job...

What does the 'Holiday' option do?

Nah, decided to manage Valencia instead.

How do you get offered a job when you start unemployed (-also, what is the average waiting time before you get offered?)

Why not run it with only one league and a small database on your laptop? That way, it'll still be resonably fast... Well, playable.

I've actually conquered the game before, starting with no club. :-)

Started unemployed and got given the Morton (Scottish Second Division) job. Took them to the SPL within 2 seasons (2 consecutive promotions) and then finished 5th in my third season there, which delighted the board. Then I was offered the Bolton job (they'd been relegated after the first season and were sitting mid-table in the Championship), and got them promoted back to the Premiership in my first season. Three seasons in the Premiership led to 13th and 7th and 3rd respectively, which got me in the Champions League.

Then I deleted all my games by accident and haven't tried anything as challenging since. Was so frustrating losing about 7 seasons of hard work, and I can't be assed doing it again.

Since then I've only been Atletico Madrid, Liverpool and Paraguay. Teams that can be managed without too much effort. Paraguay was fun, though. I recommend South American international teams for anyone looking for something different (as long as you don't go Brazil, because they just hammer everyone).

It's detecting the pirated copy.

Delete the pirated copy. Then try another install.

If that fails (it was a problem in CM 03/04), then your best bet is to ask for a replacement disk or copy the game folder from your PC to your laptop.
