I said a month ago I would try an idea that I thought of for SR. I asked permission and I have completed it, on the left is the options for were the user is, (eg forum) also the whole list is still on the page but the forum topic size is smaller.

whad do you think?

Have to consider all possible users though, if one perosn isn't impressed, they wont tell their friends, or make a return visit. I run this monitor at 1600x1200, and as such, I expect a good few inches blank space. A user running at 800x600 would find it fits perfectly (I think the canvas size is 795 pixels wide), and anything less would need scrolling. Using percentages for widths is ok in some cases, but in a forum, it could cause all sorts of problems with the text layout.

I think it looks pretty good. I'm using 1024x768 on IE 5.5, and it seems nicely laid out. There's a bit of a gap on the right hand side which you might be able to fill. Use percentage widths or something for that.

Then again, this forum as it is now, has a good three inches of my monitor filled with white on the right-hand side. 1024x768 is a popular resolution, especially among the sorts of people that are likely to visit a computers/games site like this.

Therefore in many ways, your design is better! ;)

Oh yes, that would be good. But such a long number will force a line wrap on a PC, so other viewing your work on a PC might not be seeing what we are seeing on our Macs.

Also I have tried to view it in Netscape and it doesn't work that well either, try and fiddle around with the text sizes in the menu bars and it may look a bit better...

(I wasn't allowed to claim the boxset as two prizes, doesn't matter though)

Also I now know how difficult this site must to design for, the tables were amazing! well done, or maybe I am just 16...

I thought the idea of the right banner was great, I don't like the way the enter text box anf forum list start so far down, so I took away (but did not remove) the links, the whole thing is a lot less longer and the titles on the right are great for the users!

:) Thanks... do you like the bracket number :P

Well I must admit er-no that I like some of the ideas in it.

It does not work properly on my netscape, it's too wide for my screen and it would take longer to load, but I'll take it into account because it could solve a few of our problems.

Let me know if you spot any of your ideas creeping into our site.
