And it's mine!

A bank robbing/general heist game. Each different level is a different set-up that requires you to infiltrate different locations, avoid/take out guards, set up electronics, lay traps and bluffs, shimmy through air vents, avoid laser beams, all in the style of Oceans Eleven.

Just imagine how cool a game like that could be. Breaking into a casino vault. Choosing five men to take part, all with different abilities eg. small chinese guy fits through vents, big knucklehad knocks out guards, dweeby guy is good with electronics, pickpocket can steal keys and paperwork, charming guy can distract people... it's a classic waiting to happen. Add several different ways to complete each break-in and you've yourself a winner. You could even break up different heists into different locations by nicking bits of equipment from elsewhere.

Nick the best bits from Splinter Cell, throw in a bit of M:I-style action (lowering yourself through air vents etc.), a few Bond-style gadgets and you've got a class-A game. Obviously the game would have to be fairly difficult, and you'd fail the first few times, but once you get to learn people's routines, find passwords and codes, disguise yourself as key employees etc. you learn each level.

Man, this game would rule. Like Splinter Cell but set in Vegas without Michael Ironside. All ideas are copyrighted to me, mofos. As far as I know, a game like this has never been created, that focuses solely on the break-in side of things, so it'd be fairly fresh and original.

And yes, I did just watch the Parole Officer.

Oh, I mean at any one time. So once you've got this code for this door, you retire your distraction and bring in guy disguised as security, who's escorting in your little guy who's 'under arrest' who then goes through the air vents and... you see what I mean. You should have a team of at least ten or so people that you can use, but not all at once.

'Seductress' knocks over wine glass onto security guards trousers. He bends over, she nabs card...etc,

Or, release balloons onto security cameras.

That might be too far.

Co-op mode would be genius.

Come on man, you must have a Spas-12 section somehwere! They had MP5s in Ocean's Eleven!

True, they were disguised as SWAT teams, but hey

I reckon a larger team than two though - or else you're limited to just that - 'distract, tip-toe, distract', and not 'distract/cut lights/blow doors/drive van into hole in wall/pretend to be SWAT' team (AI evidently) etc.

I still think a cut scene or something should show the heist in its glorious detail.

Although it will be skippable.

And another absolutely vital thing - a fully interactive enviroment.
As in, absolutely everything in the room can be interacted with.

Thus allowing the player to use their mind, and therefore adding a truckload of realism.

Having to think on the spot - if there's a hitch, use what's around you. It'd take that linear feel away from it, and would force the user to actually play the game, as in, they wouldn't just waltz into wherever and do what they have to do.

They'd have to take each area as unique, survey the area, think how certain things may be handy etc.

Seriously - this game has potential indeed.

Seriously though, is this not the greatest idea ever? I honestly think this could work.

And, reading your main post - about learning the level.

The levels should take aaagees - as in, like O11, you learn the patterns, the codes, and slowly infiltrate into the building - getting workers in there/technicians etc. Each level should have little quirks/different systems/different people etc.

Ah, I've been silently plotting this for a while, you see?

And no guns - that's one rule I'm firm with. It's not a shooting game. You didn't see George Clooney pull a gun on some guy to get some money. It's about the love of the game, man!

You shouldn't be able to wade in there with guns at all, try that in a real casino and see how far it gets you. No, I reckon you should have to spend at least an hour on a level before you're ready to try it properly. You should be able to disguise yourself as different people, listen in on conversations, hack computer files to get passcodes and vital information - it's much more a thinking game than an action game, but with some action elements ie. dodging security guards and blowing up safes, that sort of thing.

As for the CDS-style team action, I think just maybe using two people at a time might be best, as not to confuse things. For example, one character would walk up to a guard and distract them, while the other tiptoes past. The distractor could be ordered to do said task, while you manually take control of the infiltrator. Also, this would make for a mean co-op mode.

We all do Snuggly.

That's a grand idea (hurhur) Azul. Tense music, little XIII style veritas shots showing guards moving around/running etc - close ups in (in panoramic-bordered styleé) of your leader's eyes etc.
