Mattribute/ÂLІÂÎR - Liverpool/Newcastle were overseeing things but that was about it, they didn't make a bid so that left Everton and Middlesboro who did infact offer more money in transfer and wages than United for Smith and they were his alternatives.

However he turned them down and your your telling me you would sign for one of them over a chance to play in the champions league, a much greater chance to win medals and develop yourself a hell of a lot more by playing with and against some of the best in Europe? to me it shows that he is ambitious.

I know where I would go, people who don't play football for a living wouldn't really understand and bring personal feelings into play.

Lil' Bro, if you were playing for Spurs, and they got relegated, would you leave them for Arsenal?

I rest my case.

Ah, smith is indeed a traitor, and there is no loyal premiership players left. T'appears all players care about now is money. we loved you smith, but we hate you now, and you can forget coming back to elland road, we all hate you now. The words of one saddened leeds fan.

Come on guys cut him some friggin' slack....

So he has gone to Man Utd, who wouldn't. There is not a single player out there who doesn't play for Arsenal and possibly Chelsea who would turn down a chance to play for Man Utd, however much a die hard fan they were and that was what he was.

He stayed with you last season, when you avoided relegation by a little bit, a lot of players would have upped and left.

Leeds fans, I feel for you espeically with him going to United, but what were you expecting? Him to move to a club like Liverpool, come on he needs decent support (:p). No, seriously he was obviously going to go to a big club.

I am a huge fan of his and would love to see him in the England squad, hopefully him playing at united will push him a bit further towards that.

Good luck Smiffay!

Ali, you've summed up my feelings.

Any Leeds fan would rather play football for Leeds in division 1 than play for Man United in the Premiership.

if you're the fan of a club, that's the pinnacle of everything. Forget Europe, forget England - you're playing for the club you've idolised for god knows how many years.

Sorry but that is crap, if you are a Yorkshire lad who supports Leeds by default Man Utd are scum. All he has done for Leeds is well and truely over, like they were saying in the Cop on the last day of the season "anywhere but scumchester".

Put on or no put on, if you love Leeds as much as Smithy "supposedly" did -being a local lad and all - you wouldn't go to Man Utd, that is just a ghost rule in Yorkshire.

Of course money is an issue however he would have gotten most things from any of the top clubs interested. It isn't the fact he has gone, that was inevitable, it is where he has gone.

Everyone has to agree that it is the best way for him to improve both for his home and international career, you would have to be blinkered for you not to see that.

As for his temper, he can't help that being raised as he was right next to Belle Isle :)

Also, after the kung fu-fighting Eric Cantona and drug test-skipping Rio Ferdinand, could this move across the Pennines prove to be the worst yet, given that Alan Smith has a very red-hot temper to go with his youth???

:S ;)
