If I was getting paid 20,000 a week at Leeds, do you think I'd care about money?

20,000 at leeds is worth infinte at Man Utd.

Being a solid Woking fan, there certainly are two "no go" areas. Not for all the money in the world would a true Woking fan play or even be assosciated with Steveange or Aldershot. Hence the immense stick anyone who does move there gets.

I'm definitely with mattribute on this one, and I think it is more universal. I said in another thread that i'd stay on lower pay in one division down for the club I loved over ANY other club one division higher. There is no way that Alan Smith truly loves Leeds Utd.

As for Neo, I fully understand your point but what Alan Smith has said on and off the record since his time at Leeds just makes it even harder to understand why he has made this move.

He has shot himself in the head on this one, he said one day he want sto come back and play for Leeds yet I can't believe the over-sight, he has moved to the team which people in Leeds despise beyond belief, if he seriously thinks Leeds fans will back him he is sadly mistaken.

From a career point of view tis a great move but it doesn't match his "supposed" feelings and beliefs.

For me Smithy is quite simply one of the finest players in the Premiership and in a team performing week in and week out he will shine and proove to people he is a goal scorer and not just a support man who will work for the team, that comes as standard.

I will be very interested to see if he goes all lovey dovey with Utd kissing the badge and the like.

I'll agree with that Ali that's why i think this pre season transfer activity will decide the premiership in my opinion. United need a creative winger to actually keep knocking in the chances for our forwards (there's absolutely nothing wrong with that area of the United squad) a strong midfielder that can control a game to take over from Keane and at least one top class defender to partner Ferdy in the centre of defence because Brown is about as useful as a sheet of bounty against a tidal wave.

Also Fergie buying players and playing them where they are meant to be played would be nice as well

If all that happens, which knowing our board and it's tendancy to run a mile whenever it comes to actually paying for players is very unlikely, then we should, as usual, win our trophy back :-D

Arsenal are the future. This last season for Utd is just living proof of how poorly the transfers in and out of the club have been handled. Losing Stam cost them dearly but it was the Beckham transfer that did it as Solsjkaer just wasn't going to be the revelation on a regular basis that Utd fans thought he would. Some truely average players were brought in, Kleberson and Djemba Djemba being two prime examples.

Saha was a very good buy but it wasn't that area of the field that needed looking at, it was the midfield and still is. Keane isn't the force he used to be and he will slowly peter out like he has done this season. The threat of Giggs running at players doesn't fill you with the same dread that it did a few years back.

What has happened in this last season is just living proof of what was going to happen, Arsenal are pushing forward, as are Chelsea and as far as I can see Utd aren't making great in-roads into getting someone who can control the midfield area to step in for Keane, this will cost them dearly.

I never said it wasn't but he still has a better chance to win something than either Everton/Boro.

I think I understand the hatrad, think about it im a United fan everyone hates us and it goes as far as Liverpool, Leeds and Man City not just one opponent.

Yeh I understand but you cannot change an ambitious person, peoples feelings change and they want more than playing in the Division 1 or a mid table team, again look at Sol Campbell - he must have been brought up told to hate Arsenal and so forth but he moved on to further his career the same as Smith - the opportunity is presented to you on a plate and all personal hatrad and vendatta's fly out of the window. You cannot look back in your career and think 'what if', I'd hate myself for it.

Hehe, geez one season where United do badly and suddenly the doom mongers are out *the great Era of United dominance is over*

May i cast your mind back to 1999 following one of the worst seasons United had had in the 90's. Now what happened that year after everyone had been saying Arsenal were going to be the next big force of English football? Ah yes that's right we went on to do the treble. Now i'm not saying we're going to do that next season (we need another 3 or 4 signings for that) but one bad season doesn't mean United are suddenly crap and their dominance of english football is over. If you'd have taken Sol Campbell out of the Arsenal squad for half the season i doubt they'd have gone unbeaten. Losing a influential player hurt our chances alot. Of course the fact we played totally crap and about as good as a mid table premiership side didn't help either along with Fergie playing people in the wrong positions. :-D

Smith has gone to United, yes i know what it means and how he is 'a traitor' for going to the 'red scum', but for god sakes it's a bloody game, a bit of entertainment for 9 months of the year not something to be sending death threats and hate mail to the guy. He, like everyone else, has a career to think about and playing in the premiership is going to do him far better than playing in division 1. Concentrate on your own team and how you're going to be spending your little transfer budget to get back into the Premiership but more importantly get a bloody life for god sake and stop being so pathetic. It's a game, get over it.

End of.

The big Era of Man Utd dominating everything is long over, going to Man Utd doesn't automatically mean you will pick up multiple medals a season like it used to.

You are still completely over looking the point. I will simplify it...

In West Yorkshire, Leeds in particular you just don't support or even look on the side of Manchester, I know people who get severly kicked in for doing so. I don't agree with that but I hate them, you clearly don't understand the point I am making. I went to secondary school with a lad who had the option of trialing for Utd and Leeds, in that situation despite the excellent Leeds youth team at the time he turned the chance to play for Utd when he was approached in a tournament where we represented Yorkshire in a national tournament.

His dad tried to talk to him but he wasn't having any of it. If you ever met Smithy you would automatically see he is Leeds through and through, it doesn't make sense what he has done.
