We all play games, let's play together...

Anyone remember that? Well, whether or not Alexi Sayle actually did audition and get the Sega advertising voice part doesn't matter now! But, advertising and all forms of promotion in fact do make a huge difference to a product success, I mean who remembers any other Dreamcast adverts? Well I think I can name all of them, as there's only a few, but what is your favourite ever advertisment or advertising ploy?!

I want you to think (try - it may hurt to start), and post in here what form of promotion that is gaming related that has really made your jaw drop. Not many make me go 'wow' anymore - tis more of a case of 'wah?' as gaming adds these days just don't seem to make any sense - I mean that PS2 add with the duck? No way...

Anyway, I think the PlayStation advert on TV with all that lightning was pretty darn frightening - at the time, being a Sega Saturn owner and all... But that were a good add.

Sega can blame all of Dreamcast's failure on it's ridiculous advertising, with the only half decent bit of TV time being the MSR add for them, and even then they mucked it up with the 50hz version showing! The 'Dreamcast, Up to 6billion players' promotional stunt in the cinemas probably made people more unaware at the Dreamcast then anything - after all, that promise never happened until the misery that is Chu Chu Rocket! The stone throwing advert was again insane, and the barber advertising, although funny, really didn't help at all. You see the only people that stood a chance of 'getting it' were people who had researched the ads! Like me... Oh and the Euro 2000 ads, which Sega spent £5m on, were just pointless - promoting online gaming with only ChuChu Rocket out?!

Makes you wonder if there's a ban on actual in game footage advertising! 5 Seconds of Soul Calibur, Shenmue or even Sonic Adventure could have rescued the DC, but then the PS2 might not have got Crazy TAxi...

Anyway, Nintendo advertise Pokemon sometimes, but we're all aware of it so they don't really need to promote the things anymore, but they will.

So.....the best advertisement of all time, in my eyes has to be... I'm gonna go for the PS add with the lightning - it worked for them, and it's the only one I can think of that's any good. You know the one 'Do Not underestimate the power....'

Excellent

Cheers

Anyhow, I can't wait to see what promotional fun Mr Gates and co are going to have with the Xbox - you see, how on earth are they going to persuade everyone it looks nice? It doesn't! But that isn't the point. Maybe a split screen advert with two TV screens - one of PS2 gaming and one of Xbox gaming to show the huge leap in technology. Maybe the two snowboarding launch titles could be pit up against each other!

Anyway, we need more gaming advertisements to get people playing games again!

See, I told you it was an effective advert! :-)

Enough of the Third Place already! You see, no one 'gets' it, so everyone 'talks' about it, and so people become intrigued, earn money whilst feeling the urge to buy something and 'hey presto' 450,000 PS2 get sold in the UK. Magic.

Personally, I feel the 2seconds of the PS2 blue dot light was the greatest - no one remembers it in my family, but I knew that it meant the CD/DVD drive was opening.

OK enough of that - on a completely unrelated to gaming advert, I think the cleverest TV add in recent months is the excellent Reebok 'lose the beer belly' spectacle! It really is clever, and although I do not have a beer belly, I may well get the trainers...

Anyway, I'm glad about that Mortal Kombat link/advert on the UKgames homepage - it now speaks the truth! Although, I doubt if any more people will actually buy it than before! MK Gold? Pah! You want to be selling Virtua Fighter 3TB for £9.99 and telling us all about it - it's great! Oh and, you (SR) should sell Soul Calibur for £9.99 also. And tell everyone about that. Games sales will go up beyond belief (not as much as they would if you sold the PS2 for £249.99 for a week - think about it)

I use to like the old Sega dentist chair adverts!! They were pretty bizarre!!
The Zelda - Ocarina of Time advert I found quite moving - As it took so long to get released finally seeing it advertise was a great moment!! I would say that was probably the best!!

That PS2 'Third Place' advert is possibly the worst advert I have ever seen. It has no relevance to the console whatsoever, no games footage and it doesn't even mention the console until the end. If you blinked you wouldn't know what the bloody advert is for!

The best games advert I have seen was about an hour ago on ITV. It was for 'The Sims' and was in a fifties style house type thing ala 'Pleasantville'. It was quite good for a games advert. I mean, it featured about TWO SECONDS OF FOOTAGE FROM THE GAME! WOOOOOOW!

Give the adverts time though,

no, all I've noticed is the boards they have at the side of the pitch. Good advertising though, as you can't miss them.
