Are speed cameras the only sensible way to get drivers to go slower?

Lets face it, speed bumps are a right pain in the buttocks. So are cameras, but they work.

The only reason they work, is that people don't like to part with money. So fining people every time they're caught speeding would be a good way to slow them down, yes?

Thoughts?

I think the problem on the motorways is that people drive at speeds that are too different.

Half the queues I've sat in have been down to someone going from the middle lane into the fast lane, but only doing about 70. So everyone in the fast lane has to slam on their brakes, and it causes a consitina effect.

If everyone was doing the same speed, it wouldn't matter if it was 100mph, because you wouldn't get some slow ass muppet put out in front of you and hold everyone up.

See?

Quite right, if you arent endangering anyone else then nobody else should really care.

I once clocked 80 mph on a pair of roller skates going down the M5. The booger what ran me over had me on under his bonnet for forty miles before he stopped. I wouldn't have minded but I was only popping down to the shops for a paper.

But what about the peddle cyclist going home quickly? Say he's on a promise?

Build cars that can't go over 30.

Aye, people slow down far too much. There's one in a 40 zone on my way home from work. I was behind one person who slowed to 25!

Speed cams on the dual carrigeway are dangerous. Not because of the cam itself, but the stupid drivers.

Going along at 65mph. OH CRAP. SPEED CAM!
*Slams on brakes*

It is stupid. The speed limit is 70mph you numpty!
