Lets face it, speed bumps are a right pain in the buttocks. So are cameras, but they work.
The only reason they work, is that people don't like to part with money. So fining people every time they're caught speeding would be a good way to slow them down, yes?
Thoughts?
people simply slow down for them then speed up again afterwards unfortunately :(
the worst people are, like E_B says, the ones who insist on slamming on the anchors and c r a w l i n g past them. why?!?!?!?!
"if i speed through one i get a nasty letter saying what a bad driver i am, so maybe by driving past them at 10 miles per hour, the camera operators will say 'my, what a considerate and safe person' and send me a congratulatory letter instead"
jackasses.

The area they slow down is the 10-metre stretch on the road with the white markings. The front of the school is far longer than that. It doesn't work.

Big deal. I don't have a problem with them being hidden if that were the policy, is all I'm stating.

Why? If you are sticking to the speed limit, you have nothing to worry about. A place I know outside of a school has highly visible cameras. All that happens is people slow down while they pass the camera, then immediately speed up. It doesn't work.
