What are the 5 scariest movies you've ever seen? Go on, post them and then we can all say stuff like 'I can't believe you were scared by that.'

P.S: Snuff doesn't count.

I thought The Shining was a spectacular film, but movies like that just don't scare me. Neither did The Omen or Halloween.

Your right there, all the wrong actors were in that film.
I suppose the rednecks were ok . . .

The remake is totally void of any atmosphere. Michael Bay just doesn't know the meaning of slow build up with individual tense moments. Its usually just ferrari, big explosions and exploitation of elegant latino/american girls falling for the tough guy.

1. The Omen
2. Halloween (1978)
3. The Shining
4. Night of the Living Dead
5. Salem's Lot

No particular order. The Candyman films (1 and 2 anyway) are worth a mention on my behalf, had a few shocks after those. Wishmaster and Hellraiser 1 - 3 are pretty messed up and were definitley worth a watch. In terms of pure disturbance I would go with the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre and Evil Dead 1 and 2.

Other horror films that were decent but not all that scary were the original and remake of The Thing and a few Japanese snuff films that I don't own on DVD but if I can remember I will lob on here.

1. Signs: That home video looked so amazingly realistic!
2. The shining: I could'nt open a door for a month without thinking that blood was gonna poor out of it!
3. Event horizon: just totally sick and twisted
4. Halloween only original: Mike myres was THE scariest thing i could ever imagine!
5. The goonies: I still cant watch it today because of that cyclops geezer! Anyone thats seen goonies will know ive got a case!

I can only think of one film that ever really scared me and that was the Disney version of Pinocchio. The bit i was scared of was when the kid smokes a cigar and turns into a donkey. Freaked the hell out of me.

Blair Witch was the only one that's ever scared me, that was after I watched it in the pitch black, while in my house, alone.

Wasn't scary the second time.

Plus Channel 4 ruined it with adverts, you can't have adverts in a film like that, it just makes it too easy to watch.
