Tell me why the Gamecube is crap.
>Nintendo don't make games do they?
This will more than likely spark up some huge argument that will go on for months but in the past one of the things Nintendo is regularly praised for is the standard of its games. They may not produce thousands of games that take up half the space on the wall in you frienly local games shop, but the games they make tend to be of a generally higher quality than playstation games (yes i have heard of superman,Aeroguage and the likes). A good Nintendo game is likely to take you longer to complete and give you more enjoyment than a playstation title and this is reflected by the fact that Nintendo usually achieves better in console awards. Playstation mainly achieved better than the N64 as it had a massive time head start and a more competitive price. This time around they might have the headstart but Nintendo will have the price advantage.
At least Nintendo can create a new gaming experience with a new controller instead of using the old one. This restricts originality something which Nintendo is full of. The Gamecube is also no longer childish with 2 Resident Evil, Too human, Eternal Darkness, After Dark, Conker's other bad day and much more coming out on it.
So you can like the PS go on enjoy it, and i'll be happy in the knowing i'm enjoying gaming much, much more.

Grix likes to know about all consoles before making a decision!
FantasyMeister makes up own news!
The BETA dev kits went to developers FM. Most are still awaiting the compatible ones.
"one occaision"
"The X-Box is more powerful than a nuclear reactor." Microsoft PR.
Also, congratulations on completely missing the point of my statement on internet...
...By the way, the post answering my queries was quite serious... that's cheating. :D
Hackers today passed information to the FOG News Forum that pertains to a certain individual who we all know quite well.
They broke down a firewall to access the Internet Explorer history files of a certain Grix Thraves, and on examining the contents were shocked to see that this individual had visited the X-Box Official Site no less than 4 times in the last month.
(This was quite difficult to spot, he'd obviously been trying to cover his tracks by visiting a lot of other sites with the letter 'x' in them, usually with a 'xxx' in the URL just to make sure.)
Does this mean he's actually going to buy one?
Has the great Ninty supporter turned?
Is Bill Gates' marketing finally getting to him?
More news, as it happens from:
The Monkey Wrench
That sort of smooths it out I think...

"The X-Box will use an NVIDIA card that's around three generations faster than the current NVIDIA chips. Microsoft says that current chips have about 5% of the power that the card will generate. In numbers, that means 300 million polys per second being pushed as compared to Sony's 66, and a fill rate that's about twice as much as the PS2, and four times as much as the high end Voodoo cards.
Another advantage to the new card is that it will support high resolutions of up to 1920 x 1080, past what most people's TVs and monitors can handle for now. Microsoft is definitely planning for the future, especially when it comes to supporting things such as HDTV. The 3D card is by far the most exciting facet of the system."

As for the cost, this will be fully bourne by Microsoft themselves, and they can afford to do this. It is estimated that Microsoft are prepared to lose $2,000,000,000 (two billion dollars) to get the X-Box launched and into the market place. Sony lost a comparatively small $0.8 billion doing the same thing. The release price has been quoted as being "competitively priced". Seeing as the X-Box will be launched around flal 2001, and the PS2 will still be selling for around $299 at this time, we can expect to see the launch price over here around the £300 mark. Very reasonable when you consider what you are getting for you money.
Either that, or the developers are going
> to pay higher dev costs... which I now remember, they are
> anyway.
No they aren't. That's what Nintendo do to their developers, Microsoft are bearing the significant proportion of the launch and development costs.
Next problem, most developers don't even have the proper

And do you know WHY the dev

That sodding graphics chip again. They
> still haven't got it finished.
Developers have already received development kits last year. They've already received the near-final versions of the system. The final graphics card isn't in yet, but they've got the box, as well as the final controllers.
Next, first party support.
Yes, it's all well and good listing the wonderful third parties

Oh yeah. Microsoft can't make games.

"But what about Sega?" I here you

Nothing, really.
They are releasing some games that will

Why?
Because Sega have already said so.
And where

The Gamecube. Read interviews so at least you

Nintendo don't make games do they? Microsoft's Gamestock 2000 event showed just how serious Microsoft was about supporting PC games. In fact, the company has split off the games division into an independent building, with an Xbox division and a PC division.
Games announced so far include:
METAL GEAR X
Malice
Halo
New Legends
Mutant Chronicles: Warzone Online
Nightcaster
Project:Gotham
Medal of Honour: Allied Assault
4 x 4 Evolution 2
DRAGON'S LAIR
GRAND THEFT AUTO 3
THE MATRIX
Silent Space
Robin Hood: Defender of the Crown
THE THING
and MANY, many others. The games I've typed in BOLD say it all really. METAL GEAR X? Doesn't that make you want to go out and buy an X-Box tomorrow? DRAGON'S LAIR? One of the all time fun gaming classics from the arcades? THE MATRIX? One of the best films of all time getting the full X-Box treatment? Come on Grix, you gotta be converted by now. Exclusive or not, who cares? These are being brought out on the X-Box, that's all that really matters here.
Internet
> access? Whoops, they messed that up as well.
The X-Box is broadband enabled, by having 10/100 bast T Ethernet built in, it means that you'll be able to use a cable modem or DSL account to play games. That means smoother games online. A standard modem will be available at extra cost. The same goes for the Gamecube, you have to purchase your 56k modem separately to the main unit.
Next problem, it
> plays CD's. What the hell is the point of that?
It's like telling
> consumers that the X-Box isn't a real games machine, just some sort
> of genre splicing s***e machine.
As well as playing CDs from right out of the box, for just an estimated £30 more you can by a remote package that allows you to pay DVD movies, full screen, with full HDTV support. The Gamecube CANNOT play music CD's OR DVD without substantial hardware support (i.e. you'll need a CD player and a DVD player to do it.)
What else?
Oh yeah, the Japs
> hate it. That's half the market gone.
Bill Gates spoke live, for the first time, at the Tokyo Games Show 2001 in March this year. As well as clinching a huge deal with NTT (Japan's leading telecommunications company) to provide a high-speed broadband online gaming service in Japan. The Japaese are very excited about being able to produce games that we've never seen before using this new technology, and so this will promote more growth in the gaming industry in Japan, and across the world.
Microsoft lie.
> Constantly.
Name just one occaision apart from the one incident where the graphics design department decided to become overcreative with the Amped screenshots? That wasn't lying, that was 'creative marketing'.
If they had the guts to admit that half their stats

> the slightest bit of respect for them.
Discuss this more fully please, I have the full specifications to hand, and they look fine to me. Are you getting picky because the overall height of the X-Box is a quadrillionth of a millimeter shorter than the specifications say? At the end of the day, it's the GAMEPLAY that counts, and the X-Box, regardless of its specifications on paper, will outperform every console that has EVER been released, and because of it's 64 MB of shared memory, developers can delegate exactly how much memory will go towards RAM and VRAM, solving a problem that plagues other systems. The X-Box will not have these limitations.
The only reason I would
> buy a X-Box is for the reason that when I buy one, Microsoft loses
> money.
Go for it, you know it therefore makes great sense to buy one.
The console runs as fast as the Gamecube, with a few differences.
Example. The Gamecube can fill textures faster, and can apply multiple layers to it automatically, to make it look damn lovely.
But the X-Box can display more polys on screen, even though the texture of the polys will be of a lower quality than the Gamecube ones.
