yes you can, there are two versions of the GC,
The first will be abled with a CD sized loader, the 8 cm game disks will ride a bit lower than the above CD loader,
The second will be able to play full sized DVD's.

FM they are not CD's they are small DVD disks, and Grix you can play CD's on the GC, that is why there is extra size in the loader.
But you CAN play CD's on the Gamecube.
