My best friend's dad also died from cancer a few years ago.
I also fear cancer because, though I've never smoked, I grew up with two parents who were heavy smokers; my mum has since given up, but my dad continues to smoke reasonably heavily.
Now all of us with PC's or Mac's have a chance to assist in finding a cure for this disease.
Go to this URL:

...and download the software. It runs in your computer's spare cycles and analyses potential cures for cancer.
All other relevant info can be found on the site.
If anyone is interested in joining it, I have created a team called 'Special Reserve Forum Regulars'.
I have it running constantly on my work PC, along with the SETI agent; it's also on my home PC, but only runs when that machine is on. Once I get my new MAXX PC (most likely the end of June) it should run more often, not to mention quicker! :-)
Most of the info required can be found in this thread, or on the United Devices web site.
The SR team page can be found at:

To those who have previously joined... if you are no longer able to run the software, could I ask that you please visit the team page and remove yourself from the team.
Many thanks.
So remind me if you speak to me on MSN!
I dont want to leave it on for 2 weeks as there'll be no one in the house at all.
Also im a poor student and i dont really want to be landed with a huge electricity bill.
(Having said that, now it's bound to crash.)
But I don't thi
'doze is a problem, leave a 98/ME pc on for 4 days or so and it tends to collapse in on itself when you try to do something useful
Sorry.
Rest assured, when i return, my computer will be on flat out searching for a cure.
If you wish to turn you PC off, just hit the snooze button on the UD main interface before you power down, that way, when you restart later, the UD program restarts from the last completed molecule, and doesn't have to start right from the beginning again.
Therefore, if you are analysing a particularly complex molecule and are up to 200,000,000 conformers, it's probably wise just to let that particular molecule finish before you power down.
Personally, my PC runs 24/7 so I don't get that problem, the only time I have to be there for the UD program is to hook up to the internet now and again to get the next work unit.

I'm also on NTL - makes no difrerence.
I have left my home PC on overnight twice, as it does take some time to process. I also have my work PC running it, as that is on all the time. I think that may have crashed though, as it hasn't returned any recently - I've been off work ill for the last 2 days (hence very few posts until now), but should be back tomorrow to get it sorted.
