Why did you decide not to?
I bought one because I’ve had the original for a number of years and still come back to it time and time again.
I’ve had a N64 and grew bored with it (apart from Goldeneye), and have always gravitated towards the little grey box.
When I heard about PS2, I thought “cool, that’ll rock” and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
New leaked out, little pics surfaced on the net and were removed within a day.
All I knew is I wanted one.
And it gathered momentum and became bigger and bigger.
Then the launch day.
Most of you pre-ordered and collected; I couldn’t be bothered with any of that and decided to get one in the New Year.
Except one day I saw them on sale in a supermarket, minimal queue and no fuss.
I bought one and spent the day at work staring at the blue box under my desk.
Phoned a mate, he came over and we unwrapped it, set it up and played the demo disc 1st, to see what this myth had in store for us.
It was like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
We sat at the foot of the black monolith and made excitable noises.
And then I got peeved at the lack of titles, moaned and groaned because I had the same 3 games for 3 months.
Only now, we’re spoiled for choice, they are coming out every Friday and decent titles are appearing regularly.
I bought Z.O.E for the MGS2 demo to be honest, but I’ve since discovered that the main game itself is durn good fun.
Which can only be a bonus.
So what made you buy one?
Are you happy with it?
I did, and I am.
Even when it died on me, SCEE replaced it swiftly enough to not really matter.
And we have decent, available titles to choose from.
It has taken a while, but the PS2 is starting to shape-up and make me, personally, glad that I bought one.
There was a time I panicked and played DVDs, but not any more.
I knew, as soon as they announced it, that I would buy one.
I have the PS1 and have not been let down by it.
The same stands true for PS2.
I don’t want a Gamecube because I remember the hype of N64, which left me cold and wondering why I paid £250 for this thing?
X-Box might be interesting, we’ll see.
For now, I glance at my PS2 and a little smile of fondness appears on a formerly cynical visage.
PS2, here to stay.
Sure there were hiccups, delays and detractors, that is always the way.
I'm sure people stood next to Henry Ford and shook their heads with "Henry, it's amusing but it'll never catch on" as his Model T puttered down the road.
We're beyond that now, so let's raise a glass to the future.
I bought my PS2 for the same reasons, but was also disappointed with the amount of good games.
BUT NOW, we have ZOE, StarFighter, Shadow Of Memories all coming out in the space of a week, and I don't have the money to buy them all!!
And there's more over the next couple of weeks!!
I can answer that in different ways. There isn’t just one answer to it. Like you, I had the little grey box for quite some time so I just knew it was a time for a change. I had been following news for the Ps2 for about 2 years now.
I was really annoyed abut the pre-ordering scheme for a while, but full credit to Sony, they promised me a Ps2 for Christmas and that is the time I got it.
I was so thrilled with it that I was playing it for like 20 hours a day.
I was getting a little fed up with their not being enough PS2 games, but the game Zone Of The Enders has made me feel much better. Need I mention that the demo of MGS2 was absolutely outstanding!
People were saying to me to wait for a bit until the Playstation 2 dropped down in price but I knew that if I didn't have a PS2 now, I would definitely have it by April because I know that I will be missing out on something special.
I’m not disappointed that I didn’t wait a couple of months after because 1) I had the money at the time and 2) I knew I would get a PS2 no matter what, so why not get it straight away?
Some people say that the games out at launch are rubbish and that the PS2 is not worth buying, and I agree about the games not being up to standard but, give it some time and I’m sure than in a year or so. The graphics will be improved tremendously and that the PS2 will be much cheaper. Hopefully all the games that everyone wants will also be out by then i.e. Metal Gear Solid 2.
The games take ages to be released and that annoys me and so many others but when they do come out they will make me appreciate them more. Metal Gear Solid has been delayed several times now, some people say that its because they need to improve the game but in my opinion Konami are just waiting for the right moment.
Also, Grand Turismo 3: A-spec has been delayed but, again, im pre-pared to wait as long as it takes.
People are really annoyed at Sony for delaying games time after time but it’s not Sony’s fault, they don’t get a word in. If they controlled when games are released surely they would want all the great titles to be out for launch, right?
I knew from the beginning that I would not purchase the Nintendo GameCube or microsoft X-Box because I couldn’t be doing with waiting for them to be released, so that swayed me onto the side of the PS2 more.
I have absolutely NEVER regretted my choice of the PS2 because it is just simply a wonderful console. I do not think that the PS2 will be number one when the other consoles come out, but one thing I know for sure is that Sony won’t give up on the Ps2 for a long time to come.
So, the playstation2 is the future of my gaming. So far I love it. The only thing that infuriates me is that you have to wait a year before anything new (and good) comes out. This is quite frankly unacceptable. Apart from that though I have been very pleased with it. It is my new “friend”:) It shares my room with me, DVD’s and computer games.
Thanks for reading,

Personally, I too was never let down by the PSX, it lasted me 5 years, no hiccups, great games. When the PS2 arrived on the market, I was dissapointed by the lack of consoles at launch, the poor quality of the initial batch of PS2's, so decided that for me the DC was a better buy until the X-Box arrived.
My reasoning was that the DC already had a huge catalogue of games available to me, and I was brought up on the Sega Megadrive, and I too am very happy with my new DC 128-bit console.
My next purchase should be the X-Box, Nintendo never gets a look in with me, purely because they don't have enough games in their huge range of titles to interest me, even though others lap them up.
Until the X-Box arrives, the DC is going to keep me very busy indeed....
