Why did you decide not to?
I bought one because I’ve had the original for a number of years and still come back to it time and time again.
I’ve had a N64 and grew bored with it (apart from Goldeneye), and have always gravitated towards the little grey box.
When I heard about PS2, I thought “cool, that’ll rock” and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
New leaked out, little pics surfaced on the net and were removed within a day.
All I knew is I wanted one.
And it gathered momentum and became bigger and bigger.
Then the launch day.
Most of you pre-ordered and collected; I couldn’t be bothered with any of that and decided to get one in the New Year.
Except one day I saw them on sale in a supermarket, minimal queue and no fuss.
I bought one and spent the day at work staring at the blue box under my desk.
Phoned a mate, he came over and we unwrapped it, set it up and played the demo disc 1st, to see what this myth had in store for us.
It was like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
We sat at the foot of the black monolith and made excitable noises.
And then I got peeved at the lack of titles, moaned and groaned because I had the same 3 games for 3 months.
Only now, we’re spoiled for choice, they are coming out every Friday and decent titles are appearing regularly.
I bought Z.O.E for the MGS2 demo to be honest, but I’ve since discovered that the main game itself is durn good fun.
Which can only be a bonus.
So what made you buy one?
Are you happy with it?
I did, and I am.
Even when it died on me, SCEE replaced it swiftly enough to not really matter.
And we have decent, available titles to choose from.
It has taken a while, but the PS2 is starting to shape-up and make me, personally, glad that I bought one.
There was a time I panicked and played DVDs, but not any more.
I knew, as soon as they announced it, that I would buy one.
I have the PS1 and have not been let down by it.
The same stands true for PS2.
I don’t want a Gamecube because I remember the hype of N64, which left me cold and wondering why I paid £250 for this thing?
X-Box might be interesting, we’ll see.
For now, I glance at my PS2 and a little smile of fondness appears on a formerly cynical visage.
PS2, here to stay.
Sure there were hiccups, delays and detractors, that is always the way.
I'm sure people stood next to Henry Ford and shook their heads with "Henry, it's amusing but it'll never catch on" as his Model T puttered down the road.
We're beyond that now, so let's raise a glass to the future.
> Yeah right plz stop these PS2 'why i bought it!'
Why? is it making you wish you had a PS2 :-)
> Yeah right plz stop these PS2 'why i bought it!'
Why??
Well, you can stop all the, "Why I'm getting GameCube," then.
> Great post M16, and I completely agree.
Thank you Ant!
I'm not just a Sony fan though, I have a 64 and a dreamcast. PS2 is my favourite for some reason though. I tried to figure it out today, but I am totally baffled!
I love my N64 and adore my Dreamcast but for some reason the Ps2 is my favourite of all consoles. The games I have got on my N64 are superb but if I had a chance either to buy a N64 game or a PSX game it would always be a PSX game, and it’s the same situation with my Dreamcast and PS2. Can you suggest some reasons why this might be, so I can get to sleep tonight without my braining hurting :-)
