Why did you buy the PS2?
Why did you decide not to?

I bought one because I’ve had the original for a number of years and still come back to it time and time again.
I’ve had a N64 and grew bored with it (apart from Goldeneye), and have always gravitated towards the little grey box.

When I heard about PS2, I thought “cool, that’ll rock” and waited.
And waited.
And waited.
New leaked out, little pics surfaced on the net and were removed within a day.
All I knew is I wanted one.
And it gathered momentum and became bigger and bigger.
Then the launch day.

Most of you pre-ordered and collected; I couldn’t be bothered with any of that and decided to get one in the New Year.
Except one day I saw them on sale in a supermarket, minimal queue and no fuss.
I bought one and spent the day at work staring at the blue box under my desk.

Phoned a mate, he came over and we unwrapped it, set it up and played the demo disc 1st, to see what this myth had in store for us.
It was like 2001: A Space Odyssey.
We sat at the foot of the black monolith and made excitable noises.

And then I got peeved at the lack of titles, moaned and groaned because I had the same 3 games for 3 months.
Only now, we’re spoiled for choice, they are coming out every Friday and decent titles are appearing regularly.
I bought Z.O.E for the MGS2 demo to be honest, but I’ve since discovered that the main game itself is durn good fun.
Which can only be a bonus.

So what made you buy one?
Are you happy with it?
I did, and I am.
Even when it died on me, SCEE replaced it swiftly enough to not really matter.
And we have decent, available titles to choose from.

It has taken a while, but the PS2 is starting to shape-up and make me, personally, glad that I bought one.
There was a time I panicked and played DVDs, but not any more.
I knew, as soon as they announced it, that I would buy one.
I have the PS1 and have not been let down by it.
The same stands true for PS2.
I don’t want a Gamecube because I remember the hype of N64, which left me cold and wondering why I paid £250 for this thing?
X-Box might be interesting, we’ll see.

For now, I glance at my PS2 and a little smile of fondness appears on a formerly cynical visage.
PS2, here to stay.

Sure there were hiccups, delays and detractors, that is always the way.
I'm sure people stood next to Henry Ford and shook their heads with "Henry, it's amusing but it'll never catch on" as his Model T puttered down the road.

We're beyond that now, so let's raise a glass to the future.

I think the console that looked the best was probably the N64, it had some nice curves.

The DC is just a box, and the PS2 looks like some 1980's VCR or something.

Actually, in my opinion, the PS2 looks wicked!!

It's a great colour, and if you stand it vertically (I do it without the stupid stands you can buy), it really does look cool.

Sorry Tarrant, cant agree with you there. The only console that is more ugly than the PS2 is the NES. When i say ugly im talking about the actual console, not the games BTW.

I didnt buy a PS2, why not? Well, to be honest, i think im still a bit miffed at Sony for being so successful with the PSX and shortening the lifespan of my N64!

Also i bought a DC, and i cant afford to get a PS2 as well, so i'll keep playing top quality titles on my DC until the X comes along, and then i'll still keep playing top quality titles as well!

It doesn't matter.

Very true, good post.

I can't see the point of trying to convince other people to get another console, as it ain't gonna work!!

I always wanted a PS2, and I still stick by my choice.

The Dreamcast was good, but was never really for me.

Same goes for the N64 (but as I said, the amount of quality games is pretty poor, AND CBFD IS £50!!!) The N64 just wasn't for me, and neither is the GameCube.

The only console that will really get a look in with me is actually the Indrema. The specs are impressive, and if it doesn't cost too much, I may be one to purchase this silver box.

Yes, I know that I'm

Still, if you like your PS2 than that's fine. I'll

Well, I would say Zone Of The Enders, Star Wars Starfighter and SSX Snowboarding are all top quality games, along with DOA2 and in some people's opinions, TTT.

So, I think that's easily matched up to how many games the N64 had when it was that old.

Also, Mario Karts and Goldeneye came out in the first year of the N64?? Well, that's pretty sad then, as that's the games that N64 owners still brag about. Well, that's the games most people tell me about. It looks like the N64 hasn't progressed much then.

Also, your last comment was absolute bullcrap. The GameCube doesn't come out for another year, and you think you've made the right choice already??
Well, people such as The Game have already admitted that the PS2 line-up looks good, and that Nintendo haven't actually got many games for GC announced. I mean, the official GC site hasn't been et up yet!!

Well, if you do buy a GameCube, then that's fine. I bought a PS2 because I liked the look of the games coming out on it. You buy a GC cos you like the look of the games coming out on it, right??

So I'll have MGS2, you'll have After Dark. I'd prefer MGS2, and you'd prefer After Dark, right??
I hope you see my point.

Thanks for reading, Ant.

Come on dude, what do you think?

And thanks for the congrats, I had no intention of winning but the godlike SR team saw fit to award me - probably to just make me shut up and stop with monkey spank routines
*s*

Yeah, I asked for B&W.
Just hope, being a gameaday win, they don't send it to me in about a week and I dont get to bash my bonzo all weekend.
(I've even convinced the girlfriend she wants to play it, so PC is coming with me to her place).

But praise be to Ali et al for being gracious and noble leaders.

Now, where'd I leave that chimp stick?.....

Congratulations!

So will it be a bout of free monkey spanking you go for, or a PS2 game?
