Yeh but it's not just about being a decent player is it?
They have to defend as a team and you said yourself that if a back 4 has been together for ages, one or two changes can disrupt it - those one or two changes must know how the rest of the defence plays otherwise the team would defend like we are at the moment.
I think it's time to look at some of our younger players because we are going to be very thin at the back. Young Bardsley has great potential and maybe it's time for Fergie to bring him and on the scene?
but I can just see it now, Wes Brown at Right Back.....

Their whole system though is to change the team every week so it doesn't hurt them as much

But they're actually decent players, Brown is the worst player to play for United since Taibi

I agree to certain aspects of that but then I look at Chelsea and Arsenal.
Chelsea seem to change their defence like they do the weather and still seem to defend quite well.
Arsenal today replaced Injured Cole with Clichy and he played fine, also using the Toure example - replacing Keown and playing like he has done for years! whilst only having played there for a short time.

I'm saying it's because we never replaced him after we sold him, i'm a big believer in if you're going to sell a star player make sure you've got a replacement coming into the door the next day before even contemplating selling them. Ronaldo is good, but still young and getting adjusted to the english game. I'd have liked to have seen Joaquin or Van Der Vaart come in as well.

Because Fergie is an idiot and thinks he's god??

When you've had a certain back four for a period of time they get used to each other and learn each others games. When one part of that machine goes missing it means the players have to get used to a different system and quite frankly Wes Brown replacing Rio Ferdinand is like replacing a 5 course meal with a piece of lettuce

Amen to that.
Ronaldo and Giggs on the wings against Man City worked wonders - why Fergie changed that and stuck Scholes on the left and Fortune on the other side is beyond me and with Ole coming back he can play on the right wing as he did last season and we won the title we Becks sitting on the bench.
Losing Rio has been a major loss, but you can't rely on one player to make up a defence, that's just ridiculous because players get injured all the time - that doesn't mean the whole team falls apart does it?
Fergie has to look at his tactics of changing players around and putting players in wrong positions and the team as a whole have to pass the ball better and work on defending as a team, a lot of the players look dejected at the moment and they need some kind of lift.
We missed several chances today notably van Nistlerooy - a sitter apparently but I won't blame him because playing up on his own - he has done a great job. Everyone has to take responsibility for the loss, especially the manager.
I say bring back our 4-4-2, play Saha with Ruud, don't rest players when they don't need resting and for fcuk sake play our players in the positions they're meant to playing!
....That would be a nice start Fergie.
To lose the championship we simply screwed up all together.

Well Rio being banned didn't exactly help matters but any United fan thinking that is the sole reason for our slide is very misguided. The fact we didn't strengthen our defence as well in the transfer window or the fact we never bought a proper replacement for Beckham in the Summer (yes Ronaldo has played well but he isn't there game after game putting in good performances) are big reasons we're struggling now. The fact Fergie likes to play merry go round with our line up doesn't help either and none of our team can say they've played consistently well this season. Plus like i said having a board arguing over a race horse instead of concentrating on the team and giving the funds needed to keep the title chase going doesn't help either.

I wasn't referring to your post. I've heard numerous ManYoo fans blaming Rio's ban.

But a loss is a loss, whether the opposition score 1 or 10.
United have been just as guilty of missing numerous chances of their own as they have of conceding sloppy goals.
Today seems to have been no exception. The report I read said that Giggs, Scholes and RvN all missed golden opportunites.

*sighs* read my other post where you would see other reasons i cited for United's slide being Fergie, the board and the WHOLE team itself.
