[Also posted in pc forum but nobody seems to be posting at the moment]

My computer just froze (which happens to most machines from time to time) so I manually restarted it and came to the main desktop. I tried to open Internet Explorer to come back online, but nothing happened...

I waited a bit and tried again. Nothing.

I then opened word just to check stuff was still working. Word opened.

Then a couple of seconds later everything else I had clicked (explorer windows and messenger) all popped up at once.

Is this a lag with my processor or something? I have just had an AMD 2.6+ installed, so I assume it should be rather fast.

Any ideas whats up with this tart of a machine I am running?

Just make sure you read what the infected file is. Sometimes an antivirus program will fix it where as a Spybot program will opt to delete it. Download it and it gives a quick summary of each infection and then post them in here and I will help you choose which ones to delete and which ones to fix. Synamtec have a FREE online antivirus scan which you can run afterwards to sort out.

Right so I restart and press F12 or Del

Then find something called Front Side Bus

Then frequency settings

Then change to 166

Is that right?

Ye its actually meant to run at twice that speed. Your FSB willbe at the default 100MHZ when it should be a 166 for the 333 edition and 133 for the 266 edition. Setting it to 166 will double the speed of your CPU and set it to around 2.0 GHZ, thats the speed it is designed to run at. Providing you have the standard CPU fan attatched and reasonable ventilation you won't have any problems running it at that speed. I have spent bloody ages messing around with my bios with this CPU and its a really decent processor.

Change your FSB to 166MHZ and download a FREE program called Spybot - Search and Destroy.

In my opinion, the ISP is the best I have ever used. They guarantee 'first time connection - everytime', which they have never let me down on.
